What Maximum Aperture Opening Do You Need?

An important question to ask when selecting a lens for purchase or for a shoot is "What maximum aperture opening do I need?"
Well ... How fast is the subject moving? What is the range of lighting conditions going to be? What is the maximum ISO speed setting acceptable? How much DOF (Depth of Field) is required?

Canon EOS 50D Night Shot (Time laps)

Shots taken in Korea
used : Canon EOS 50D
lense : EF 28-105mm II USM

The lense i used is a dark lense due to its 1:3.5~4.5
So end result is a bit dark, slightly photoshoped to give it point but result is not that different from what i took.
