its been a long timne since I posted on here. Mostlky its just work getting in the way of things but partly its because I've had nothing to say. Blogs run the risk of just shouting me, me ,me! Sometimes its nice to just enjoy the silence don't you think?

The death of the printed book.

Apparently 2010 is the year that book shops go digital. Amazon has launched its Kindle e reader, a device which can be thought of as an iPod for books. In essence it’s a digital slate capable to storing several thousand books so that a person can carry a library in their bag and browse it on the way to work.

So, it’s the 5th January already and those new years resolutions have all evaporated like snow in the Sahara!
I'm working to hard, skipping meals and drinking to much so it looks like it will all be exactly the same as last year. The one thing that I seem to be keeping up with is my drawing regime. Looking through my sketchbook last November I was shocked to realise how badly my drawing skills have degraded and I set my self the task of drawing for at least one hour every day.

I got into an argument recently at an exhibition opening. On spotting a man tapping an exhibit, a very beautiful deep red glass vase with his ring, I politely asked him not to touch.

I was treated to a look of great disdain and was told "I am being careful". Whether he thought he was being careful or not is beside the point. The price tag on the vase was $5000 and clearly he should not have been touching it. "I know all about glass" he then said.

Finally I have a new computer and work permitting will once agin be blogging about art, books, music and other such things on a regular basis again! Art Singapore is coming up soon i'll have lots to say about that!

Its worth noting that any job asks for a degree of professionalism. Whether you are a bus driver or a surgeon, a bank officer or staff of Kentucky fried chicken you are expected to meet certain standards and provide a level of service to your customers. It’s interesting (and often infuriating) to note that artists are usually not considered to be professionals at all.
