UFM 100.3 radio DJ Ken Low -- better known as Ah Ken -- has appeared in court in Kuala Lumpur over allegations of him molesting a Malaysian TV host and her friend at a hen party, which he denied.

According to a Straits Times report, news and entertainment presenter Siow Hui Min and Ms Ting Yan Jing have accused the UFM 100.3 DJ of touching their breasts.

Low, 28, is denying their allegations in a trial which started last Wednesday. He told The Straits Times he had been the only man at a hen party for a friend of his then fiancee.

He had flown to Kuala Lumpur on July 21 last year to visit his now wife and Malaysian radio DJ Mary Lau, 31, when they attended the celebration at a hotel.

“We were in a long-distance relationship and I was there for only two days, so I joined in the hen’s party,” said Low, a Malaysian and permanent resident here.

He said everyone was drunk, and could not remember the revelry as he had passed out. When he woke up his wife told him the two women, in their 30s, had accused him of touching their breasts.

Low and Ms Lau tried, but failed, to resolve the matter. Ms Ting lodged a police report a few days later.

“It has been a really painful experience for us but thankfully the worst has passed. Last year we had to shuttle between the courts while printing out wedding invitations and doing the food tasting,” said Low, who married Ms Lau last September.

“My wife is standing by me and we believe things can only get better for our relationship.”

Programme director for UFM 100.3 radio station Carine Ang, 39, said the station will wait for the court verdict before deciding whether to take action.

“It is tough for them as they are all close friends. We trust Ken and will give him our fullest support,” said Ms Ang.

Asked if he feared losing his job, Low replied: “I am more worried about the impact of this on my parents’ health.”

The trial is expected to end late next month.

Source: http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/14...switch?cc=4716

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho has revealed that he wants to join Manchester City.

Fernandinho has been strongly linked with Manchester City.

The Brazilian, who is a transfer target for the 2012 Premier League champions, replied to a question from a City fan on Twitter and confirmed he hopes to move to Manchester.

The 28-year-old is wanted by City, who are also interested in Malaga playmaker Isco, as they plan an overhaul of their midfield for next season.

Shakhtar have placed a €50 million (£42.3 million) price on Fernandinho with manager Mircea Lucescu saying that City will have to activate his buyout clause.

Former manager Roberto Mancini said that was too much and City are reported to value the former Atletico Paranaense player at nearer £17 million.

But Fernandinho, who has won six Ukrainian titles in his eight seasons with Shakhtar, is keen to move, apparently believing it will increase his chances of adding to his five Brazil caps.

And when asked on Twitter: "Do you want to join City? Really hope you join", Fernandinho replied: "yes my friend!!!"

Amelia Teng | The Straits Times | Sun May 19 2013

SINGAPORE - After he left Singapore Polytechnic (SP) with a perfect score, many would have expected Mr Tan Junhong to head straight for the university.

But the aeronautical engineering graduate, who topped his course, wants to first work at aircraft- engine makers such as Rolls-Royce for five years before deciding on university plans.

"I know my decision is unusual, but then again my education journey has been unusual," said Mr Tan, who at 24 is four years older than his peers.

He did not do well in his A-level exams at Pioneer Junior College and failed to qualify for university.

After his national service, he decided to follow his childhood interest in aeroplanes, and went to SP.

"There are some jobs where experience counts more than qualifications," said Mr Tan, the son of a technician and a housewife.

His decision to start work first is rare among the top polytechnic performers. They usually choose to further their studies after graduation.

Fellow SP graduate Eugene Lim, armed with a maritime business diploma, has already secured a place to read maritime studies at Nanyang Technological University.

"I'm very sure I want to work in the maritime industry, so I want to deepen my knowledge in this field," said the 20-year-old.

"There are also better career prospects with a degree."

Over the last five years, 65 to 70 per cent of SP students have gone on to pursue degrees at universities here or abroad.

In response to queries, an Education Ministry spokesman said that the five local universities received around 27,000 applications from polytechnic graduates and about 38,000 applications from A-level holders this year.

The value of a university degree has been hotly debated recently, after National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said earlier this month that Singaporeans do not need to be university graduates to be successful.

His comments came a day after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that polytechnic graduates need not just aim for degrees after leaving school, as they have many good options.

Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing echoed these sentiments yesterday at SP's graduation ceremony, where he was guest of honour.

He told the 340 graduands that there were sufficient job opportunities for them here, compared to Europe, where youth are facing high unemployment rates. He also challenged them to continue learning after leaving school.

"It's not the degree or the diploma... that is most important," he said. "What matters most is the training of the mind and the ability to grasp an issue, ask the correct questions, dissect the problem and find the solutions."

At the ceremony, SP principal Tan Choon Shian said: "While conventional wisdom suggests pursuing a degree right away, it is also wise to work for a few years, and gain more life experiences to be clearer about what you want before deciding."

Yesterday's ceremony marked the start of the polytechnic graduation season. More than 25,000 students from the five polytechnics will graduate over the next few weeks. This includes 5,898 graduates from SP.
Bite: Krystle Harrison (Picture: Splash)

A 19-year-old woman has been accused of biting her boyfriend’s penis after he turned down her sexual advances, it has been claimed.

Krystle Harrison was arrested last week on domestic battery charges following the alleged incident in Bradenton, Florida.

According to a report from the Manatee County sheriff’s office, Harrison bit 24-year-old boyfriend Jeffrey Wilkinson while they were lying in bed.

‘The victim and defendant were in bed. The defendant wanted to have sex with the victim and began to touch him,’ a report obtained by the Smoking Gun said.

‘The victim informed the defendant several times that he did not want to partake. The defendant then grabbed the victim and bit his penis.’

The report went on to claim that Harrison followed Wilkinson, with whom she has a young son, outside their house, slapping him and spitting in his face.

Despite also sustaining scratches to his chest, Wilkinson said he did not want to press charges nor seek medical treatment.

Heartlanders say compulsory mediation for neighbourly disputes might be the perfect solution.
The New Paper

SINGAPORE - When we got our toy poodle last month, the first thing this Heartland Auntie did was to introduce him to our three neighbours living on the same floor.

Meet the new member of our home and in case he makes too much noise, let us know, I said, pre-empting them.

Well, I am pleased to report that I have yet to receive complaints. In fact, our pup has become fast friends with the younger members of two families.

But even the most innocuous incidents, little things like new pets, have the potential to blow up. Mainly because most of us live cheek by jowl in our HDB estates.

And when things go bad between neighbours, things can go very, very bad indeed.

One of the more memorable incidents of the last two years was residents in a Bukit Batok block petitioning to have their neighbour evicted. They complained that Madam X, who is in her late 50s, makes loud banging sounds in the wee hours of the morning.

Then there was a report that residents in a Moulmein Road HDB block were trading barbs over a durian tree.

The spat came to light after one neighbour called the police to complain that her neighbour had scolded her with vulgarities because she picked durians from a tree which he claimed to own.

When neighbours have disputes, the state helps through the Community Mediation Centre (CMC). The CMC handled 607 cases last year, up from 593 in 2011 and 498 in 2010.

Feuding neighbours made up the bulk of these cases; disputes between family members and strangers or colleagues made up the rest, and about 30 per cent are not resolved successfully.

One unresolved case I was alerted to involved two families in Yishun: Madam Eileen Koh, 58, a beautician, and her brother Dr Aaron Koh, an educator, have been locked in a dispute with their neighbour for more than a year.

The spats - which started from a hanging joss bowl - have gone on to centre around the Koh family's three dogs.

In an interview with The New Paper on Sunday about three weeks ago, Madam Koh insisted that she does not know what her neighbour has against her.

She says: "I've removed two dogs and kept one only. And the next thing I know, she is complaining about the dog barking."

Both parties have lodged multiple complaints and written appeal letters, to authorities such as the HDB, their Town Council, the police, the CMC and even their Member of Parliament, Mr K Shanmugam.

Dr Koh, 45, had hoped the mediation session would help, but it ended up with the other party shouting and hurling more insults.

Our attempts to reach the neighbour for her side of the story over the past two weeks were unsuccessful.

What is clear is that this case is quite intractable.

The parties have gone to the Subordinate Court four times since January this year, thrice initiated by the Kohs and most recently by their neighbour.

The disputes have affected Madam Koh so much so that she has been diagnosed as clinically depressed.

Dr Koh says: "She gets panic attacks and is edgy most times. I've told her to ignore the neighbour but she says she can't because of the incessant taunting." This may be an extreme case, but it illustrates a worry among heartlanders.

Miss Cathy Wong, 40, a writer, laments how "it's not possible for us to choose the kind of neighbours we want".

She adds: "If you get a good one, you're lucky. If not, just imagine how painful it will be to have to put up with an annoying neighbour. There's nothing much you can do."

Mediation is currently voluntary.

Acting Minister for Community, Culture and Youth Lawrence Wong said last Sunday that the Government is looking at forming a new tribunal to ensure they go through compulsory mediation.

Such a tribunal will be able to prosecute people who don't follow orders set out after mediation. Heartlanders applaud this loudly. They say this might be a good antidote if ever they got into a dispute.

It gets this columnist thinking though. Why do neighbours seem less inclined to tolerate one another now?

In the almost two years' this column has been around, it is the fourth time that disputes are on the lips of heartlanders and making it to Ground Zero.

Mr Keith Chen, 33, an interior designer, says: "I think it's so much easier to flare up and get into a spat with our neighbours because we feel territorial over our home and the area around it."

He had complained of his neighbour's constant door slamming last year. In his case, his neighbour apologised and was more careful with shutting the door.

But he adds: "Not every neighbour will bother."

Indeed. This is the case with seamstress Lian Siew Mei, 50, who has to contend with her neighbour living one floor up.

Madam Lian says: "Wet laundry or dripping mops... I have gone up to quarrel with them so often that now, our children don't even talk to theirs."

Retiree Ivan Tan, 76, says he is constantly irritated by his neighbour's barking Chihuahua. "As it is, I don't like dogs and to hear one barking like mad fuels the disgust lah," he admits.

He concedes that he is rash too, and says he once took a bamboo pole and started whacking it against the door to stop the dog from barking.

"Of course it got worse, and another neighbour called the police," says Mr Tan.

After the block's residents' committee member intervened, he apologised to the dog's owner and their relationship is now coldly cordial.

"We just avoid each other. When the dog starts to bark and our neighbour is not at home, I just turn up the radio volume.

"What to do? Better this way than to end up as enemies, right?"

There are stories aplenty, and every other grouse or account sounds legitimate enough for irritation and unhappiness.

It takes a lot of giving and little taking if we want our neighbourly relationships to work out.

So while it is good to have a new tribunal, why don't we take the time ourselves to see if we can adjust our own expectations.

As one friend puts it: "If you don't like this and don't like that about your neighbours, go and build your own landed property. But who knows, you may have to contend with the noise of the traffic flow."
