From 20k to 80k: COE prices over the years

From 20k to 80k: COE prices over the years

Published: 09 January, 2:20 PM

In Jan 2010, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices for cars were just below S$20,000. Since then, they have risen, reaching a peak of almost S$100,000 in Jan 2013 for Category E COEs. We trace COE prices and number of bids across from 2010, and give a snapshot of which are the most popular new car brands now. See the interactive infographic at http://tdy.sg/1a787xq.

^ Unlikely.

It is all about balancing the supply & demand. Based on the target number of residents our country is preparing to take, the demand will be even higher than before.

The COE system really sucks. This system only allow the rich to buy car. I have married couple who desperately need transport because of their baby. Without a car, its very inconvenient. However, they didnt buy due to the COE. BUT... i had some filthy rich friends who dont really need car but yet buy 2-3 car and seldom drive.

That's why they keep trying to improve the public transport by creating new MRT lines , new buses and services with the increasing COE price so that people will not buy the cars and then the govt will think that this way , traffic on roads will lessen.

Re: From 20k to 80k: COE prices over the years

there r ways to get a car if you really need one.... go through the maths carefully.... it don't make much of big difference....

u own one..... u pay roughly 1.5k to 2k all in... a mth just hidden cost you don't see things like car park petrol insurance... and etc....

u rent one... u still pay 2k u only pay for parking and petrol....still the same... just u don't own it... every 2 yrs change 1 car.....
