SINGAPORE: A 35-year-old man who tried to rob a cabby proved to be of no match for two senior citizens.
The 56-year-old victim resisted the robbery attempt and a 62-year-old passer-by helped to detain the suspect.
The incident happened at about 5.50am on Thursday.
The cabby had picked up the suspect along Hougang Avenue 8 and was directed to proceed to Blk 159A Rivervale Crescent.
Upon reaching the location, the suspect suddenly took out a penknife and demanded money from the victim.
The plucky cabby instead grabbed the blade of the penknife.
The suspect lost his grip and fled towards Blk 159A Rivervale Crescent.
Undaunted, the victim gave chase, shouting for help.
His cries attracted the attention of Julian Mariados, who was on his way to work.
Both men detained the robber after a short chase.
If convicted, the suspect could be jailed for up to 20 years and given 24 strokes of the cane. - CNA/vm
