AKB48 fans to get to 'lick' their idols next year

TOKYO: Fans of popular Japanese girl group AKB48 will get to 'lick' their favourite idols when Japan Post releases a special series of made-to-order 50-yen (S$0.80) stamp sets featuring members of AKB48 next year, reported Japanese media.

Each of AKB48's three performance teams, Team A, Team K and Team B, will get their own unique set of stamps which will retail at 5,700 yen (S$94) each.

Besides containing stamps featuring members of one performance team, every set will contain other collectibles like a postcard and a passbook case.

The stamp sets have been available for pre-order since Tuesday on the Japan Post website and will be delivered to buyers in February.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, representatives of the group Minami Takahashi, Minami Minegishi and Mayu Watanabe, all expressed that they were excited about the prospect of appearing on stamps.

"Please buy two sets, one as a keepsake and another for use. We are looking out for fan mail with these stamps," said Minegishi.

Even without Minegishi's appeal, the AKB48 stamp sets are expected to be popular with fans as those who order these stamp sets will also stand a chance to get postcards autographed by the group's members.
