Ann Kok is the youngest child of a family of six children. She has three brothers and two sisters. She started her acting career in 1993 after emerging as a finalist in Star Search Singapore. She won a contract to work on Chinese language TV channel TCS-8 (now MediaCorp Channel 8).

She is also regarded as "Third Sister" (third most popular actress in Singapore's Chinese-language entertainment industry) in the 1990s. She received many offers to play the leading roles in the television dramas of that time. In 2000, Kok went overseas to expand her acting career in Taiwan, Hong Kong & Korea. She returned to Singapore's MediaCorp in 2005.

For the first time in the 13-year long career, Ann Kok was nominated for the Best Actress Award in the Star Awards 2006 for her performance as Jiang Ruqing in Love Concierge, but did not win the award.

Ann Kok has since received more challenging and substantial roles to date, such as La Femme, in which she played a career-minded woman who neglects her family and later suffers from breast cancer.

In 2009, she played the lead role of Alice Zeng, a materialistic and show-off housewife, in Housewives' Holiday, which won her praise and positive reviews from audiences. For her performance, Ann Kok was nominated for the Best Actress Award again in the Star Awards 2010, but unexpectedly failed to win the award.

In 2011, viewers would get to see Ann Kok in yet another breakthrough role in Blockbuster Drama, The Bond.Apart from acting, Ann Kok has also produced three solo albums and sang at The Peranakan Ball in 2009 for The Little Nyonya.

Fans show disappointment that Ann Kok pulled a no-show at Star Awards

Netizens and fans are expressing their disappointment that actress Ann Kok was a no-show at last Sunday's Star Awards 2014 show.

According to The New Paper, many looked forward to seeing the beautiful 41-year-old celebrity, and wanted to see her outfit.

Last year, she wore a Herve Leger tube dress over a long-sleeved see-through netted top.

Kok, 41, left MediaCorp in March and is now promoting her new movie, Filial Party, which opens on Thursday.

Netizens have expressed their displeasure on social media platform Twitter:

"The only person I might remotely be interested in watching isn't at the awards. #annkok"

"No Ann Kok no #ootn see the whole thing boring already sigh."

"Ann Kok and Fiona Xie... The only 4 reasons to watch #StarAwards20 and they didn't even show up."

But despite Kok's absence from the award show, she still managed to make headlines last week by giving her stance on the technology of freezing her eggs.

Kok, who is single, had told The New Paper:

"If the technology for egg freezing is advanced and the doctors are confident they can be preserved well, I think it's a good idea."

Direct from Boracay! Boracay Bombshell

"Wow, this beach is beautiful!” Ann Kok exclaims, though no one is paying any attention to the shoreline right now. The breathtaking Boracay backdrop has to play second fiddle to the, um, breast-taking vision of Ann, who’s standing on a carpet of sugar-white sand, poured into a fantasy of a bikini. Her back is to the serene, sapphire-coloured sea as the cool breeze caresses her tresses into tousled perfection.

All eyes are on her — not just the crew’s, but those of a group of hotblooded young Boracay men who were frolicking with their pooches in the sea just minutes earlier, but have since decided that sitting on their paraw (a traditional Philippine sailboat) to eyeball our cover girl is infinitely more fun.

We’re in Boracay with Ann for our annual Swimsuit Issue shoot and anyone who’s been to the island would surely have something to say about the winding journey from here to there. But while you had to transit in Manila to get to Kalibo Airport in the past, SilkAir now flies direct from Singapore to Kalibo, also known as the’ Gateway to Boracay’. From there, you would have to take a scenic two-hour bus ride through the rustic city followed by a 15-minute speedboat ride before actually reaching the island. It still takes six hours to get there (down from almost 10), but no one ever said getting to paradise was easy.

But we digress. It’s only 7.30am but the sun is already mercilessly beating down on our backs like an over-enthusiastic masseuse. Note to future travellers: The sun rises really early in Boracay. Today marks the start of our epic shoot and we’re now with Ann at Puka Beach (so named ’cos of the countless puka shells in the sand), at the northern tip of the island.

Default 'If I could turn back the clock, I would not enter showbiz', says Ann Kok

What would you tell your younger self if you could go back in time?

Life posed this question to the cast of new xinyao-themed drama Crescendo. The TV series revolves around students with a passion for xinyao, the local Chinese folk-pop music that emerged in the 1980s.

They form a singing group called Crescendo, and as adults, set up a record label of the same name.

Actress Ann Kok, who plays a has-been xinyao singer from the 1980s in the series, says that if she could turn back the clock, she would not have entered show business.

Cynthia Koh, who plays a member of Crescendo, says she would have stood up to the bullies who harassed her in secondary school.

Life also asked the younger cast in the series what they hope to achieve in the future.

"I would tell the younger Ann Kok to not follow in my footsteps. Don't go into acting. It's good to have dreams, butI feel there's no market in Singapore. I should have pursued something more practical, for example, marketing. Don't join the industry unless you are in Hong Kong or South Korea, which are supportive of the entertainment industry."
