The main character is none other than Tally Youngblood, a 15 going on 16 years old Ugly who is looking forward to the long waited operation that will turn her into a Pretty. Not only that, she will get to live in New Pretty Town where New Pretties go to after the operation. Even though New Pretty Town and Uglyville are only separated by bridges, the life that goes on in there is worlds apart. While Uglies have to go to school and also to stick with a curfew, New Pretties does not have to stick with curfews and they only have to have fun. This seems like the perfect life for Tally Youngblood, but when a new found friend, Shay, enters the scene, a series of events follows that changes Tally Youngblood's life forever.

When one first encounter this book, perhaps they might think that UGLIES is only suitable for girls to read for the cover is quite misleading(due to a girl as the model) and the plot is based on a beauty theme. But I am only to happy to point out that this book is suitable for people who are interested in reading a science fiction and adventure story. This book is certainly suitable for ages. As long as you are interested in the story, there's no reason why you shouldn't read it with the reason saying that "It's not for me."! So to all boys who think that this is a girls' book, NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER! There are fighting scenes in it as well!

The series is translated to several languages such as Chinese, Japanese, German, Italian, Polish. However, between the US and the UK cover, I would prefer the US cover. UK covers are way too creepy. Check out the different covers here.

This is my favorite series!

P.S This might be made into a movie according to the news here.

I recommend torey hayden's books. very touching. Its abit like dave pelzer's books. well, all her books are true life story about her experience as a special education teacher. she got alot of books, e.g just another kid, somebody else's kids, ghost girl, tiger child, one child & many more

If I didn't remember wrongly, I did see Kite Runner in Popular at the Internation Bestseller Shelf...or just ask the staff!...

If anyone likes very old novels (17th century), I recommend Wuthering Heights. Extreme passion and love. A wonderful, heart-wrenching, vet very disturbing story (:
I know it's probably very old-fashioned for most of you, but I LOVED it.

A recommendation of a Jap book translated into Chinese called 窗边的小豆豆
About this little Jap girl who was hyperactive, and was misunderstood by mainstream sch teachers. Her mother did not give up on her and instead found a sch which was run in a special manner by the principal. The story was narrated by the author through interesting events that she remembered.
