Because for psychology in particular, you need honours to study Masters, and you can only become a professional psychologist with masters.

True that government sectors don't recognize the certs, but it gives you a head start in private companies. Their certs are from Murdoch and UOL which is the same as those offered in other places. Shorter duration only because they rush quite a bit...

I have actually been told that for accounting, some schools compress 1 module in 2 weeks, while in kaplan it was 1 topic per week. So not fully true that they rush all the time.

I have heard of UOL and Murdoch, but what about University of Ireland?

I would say the school is on par with the former two. But some of the courses at kaplan like Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Finance are actually not offered in University of Ireland itself.

From my understanding, employer who recognize D/L degree (same modules + degree name) will also recognize this degree.

The University also recognize their degree cause they are the one issuing this degree.

However, it is not the same standard as on campus because what you study for modules and degree name awarded is different from on campus.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I have heard good things about the admin and program managers, that they are very efficient in settling your issues. My ex classmate changed course from Business administration to Financial management (diploma) mid way and it was settle with minimum fuss and just a 1 time payment of 170+/-. The only hiccup that occurred was his name not appearing on the attendance list , but was rectified within the next lesson.

So that mean it's not as good as the course that is taught on campus? As in does it make the degree watered down compared to one earned at the campus?

No I wouldn't say it is watered down, it's just a name change. But the teachers in campus would most likely be more knowledgeable than the lecturers at private schools, so you may learn better and more over there.

in terms of ranking, I would say
UOL > NUIreland > Murdoch

but I won't really recommend Kaplan coz their admin is not really good... at least from my personal experience lar.

Lecturer quality is very subjective and based on luck. It's really dependent on the lecturers themselves. I had my fair share of both good and poor lecturers. The good ones had industry experience and were able to connect with us while the poor ones knew their stuff but couldn't connect with us so we had a hard time trying to understand him. Most of the lecturers actually teach at multiple private schools so some lecturers at Kaplan also teach at SMF too.

It's not good if you are not looking to further your studies overseas, as I don't think you can get into any local uni law programmes with it. Also the job prospects are pretty much zero.

I heard that is really only good enough for having a good knowledge of the law if you are starting your own company. Have been told that it'll be better if I picked another degree and chose law modules as one of my electives.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

Guys, I am currently in year 2 at poly and doing very poorly for my diploma (GPA 2.9) and think there's no way I can get into local uni now. I'm thinking of just enrolling in kaplan and do a business diploma 8mths + 18 mth degree course together...is that a path to take?

You can actually still catch up from 2.9...4.9 from your internship program can pull it up to 3.3-3.4. But agree that local uni is very hard to get into. Just take note that some employers will give weight to your diploma when hiring you, and local polys being more recognized are always better.

Longer may not necessarily be bad. I know some companies HR policies had stipulated that degree need to clock in certain hours before they will accept it.
