Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

UOL is of course more well known, but regardless of that, you must first find out what grade you can achieve? UOL is not easy at all. You may end up getting 2nd lower or 3rd class in UOL but get first class or 2nd upper class at Trinity College Dublin. You must know the structure of the course before you decide which one is more recognized.

Furthermore if I am not wrong, UOL is 100% examination-based

How does Kaplan compare to a more recognized uni like uniSim, but not as prestigious like NUS/NTU?

SIM University is the only private university in Singapore and it is highly funded by the government. You can get to enjoy 55% subsidy for your school fees.

Moreover, it was announced that SIM University has been selected to house Singapore's third law school, so I think it says alot about the direction of where the school is going.

Kaplan is the fastest route to get a degree. Advisable only if you are holding on to a decent job and you just need that cert to get a promotion or advancement and you don't wish to invest more of your time because of your other commitments. Frankly speaking, the course duration 1.5 years is too short. Judging at this point, it puts you in a poor position when it comes to job compeitition with the local grads where their courses are typically 3-4 years.

To be honest, I don't think employers differentiate between unisim and kaplan at the moment. If it were me I'd go for 2 years in Kaplan, get my degree and start gaining working experience.

And employers know that UOL exams are more difficult thats why they are better regarded.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I would like to know more information directly from the students of University of Porstmouth in Kaplan. How difficult are the exams and the assignments? Are there any of you who received first class honors?

I was told that there is only 1 assignment, and the passing marks is 40, so should not be too hard if you put some effort into it.

What made you want to join Cyber Forensics? And why Kaplan, not SIM-GE or Unisim?

I am curious about it as been hearing how sought after cyber security people are lately.

I found out that Cyber Forensics has a big demand in the market as places like banks and goverment sectors need those specialize staff for it. But whether you can graduate skilled and knowledgeable enough to get these jobs are a different matter.

I'm going to Kaplan is because this school is very near to my home.

But if you're looking for other courses that can boost your career (I believe you're intending to go in the IT industry) try go and look for those IT course from all the part time school before making your choice.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

Does Kaplan have any government subsidies like UniSim, or any other forms of discount? The price is quite expensive.

Govt subsidies no, but I know they do have some form of rebates from time to time, for my cousin who enrolled for the January intake received a rebate of $500 and the waiver of $1,000 for the bridging modules, Saved $1.5k. But their application fees are really expensive!

I know that if you go to their open houses they sometimes give discounts of up to $100 if you sign up within a certain time period.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I have heard that the lecturers at Kaplan only do some revisions and at a very quick pace, so many feel they are poor. Is that true?

The school itself is known to be fast paced so a lot of self study is expected. I think that is true in most tertiary schools. If not you can always pester your lecturer non stop.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

You can always follow the singaporean way if you find your lecturer is unsatisfactory; complain, that is lol. all private schools in Singapore which are certified with EduTrust, will have resolution channels available for parents, customers and students. These channels are properly documented and easily available on the schools' official websites.

I doubt they would take the complain of one student if the rest have no problems with it?But I understand the stress and frustration esp for people who are also working day jobs, they are desperate to learn as much as they can at during class.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I suspect the lecturers work with the assumption that everyone has a background on the subject? Those who have find them just fine and many managed to get distinctions, but it wouldn't be fair to those without.

In terms of "cert value", I actually believe that apart from govt sites, there isn't that much of a big preference from companies. When the demand is high I don't think they will value one heavily over the other.
