Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

Kaplan is know for ACCA and CFA other than tat not much of a reputation...very normal private sch....

for those who want to know about Cyber Forensics can drop me a PM... yes there is demand and there is market but not any tom dick and harry cert out there......

just think about who are the prospective employers..... u think they take crap certs

in the industry we recognize specialized certificates and offer jobs with no questions ask but cfm not with a degree cert....

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I am thinking of taking Bachelor of Science in Logistics but it is from National University of Ireland, Dublin. I found out that RMIT is lower ranked than UOI but I've always heard they are more recognized in Singapore. Would it be advisable to take the course?

Don't worry about UOI it is a recognised university. Founded in 1881, it is accredited by major bodies like EQUIS and recognized by the govt.

RMIT only more popular because schools like SIM are aggressively promoting it I feel.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

Like any other private school, you have to be careful in choosing the right program.
Kaplan is a professional private education company, so profit and sales are their main objectives.
Don't fall for their sales tactics if you think that you are more suitable for other courses.

University College Dublin is a good name and Kaplan is an established American private education institution. So you have two important factors fulfilled.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

How does Kaplan compare to BMC? I'm trying to decide between this two:

Bachelor of Science in IT (University of Murdoch, Austrialia) by Kaplan, 16mths course.

or

Bachelor of Science in Comp science (University of Hertfordshire, UK) by BMC, 12mths course.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I think you should avoid BMC Singapore. I don't like the look of their office and classroom. You should pay it a visit and see if you like it. This private school targets students who are less academically-inclined and they don't have the image of a school that takes studying seriously.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I read that a course on average, 1 module has only 20hours of seminars and workshop. Is that really enough time to learn?

There is a 10% pre seminar assignment. Then 40% on post seminar assignment.
At kaplan you need to do a lot of self study and have discipline. You should go for the full seminars if possible.

A lot of people have claimed it to be poorly recognized in singapore though? Even though the cohort every year is huge.

Just because the cohort of intake is huge does not mean it is good. There are many people who want a quick degree regardless of whether it is a validated or franchised degree due to lack of knowledge thinking that they are the same. Most of them are ITE & Poly Dip graduates who prefer that their course assesses both by assignment & exam rather then 100% exam which is the reason why Kaplan-UCD validated degree is popular. On top of that, it is a direct Hons degree. This apply to other franchised degree like SIM-RMIT too except it is not a direct Hons degree.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

It seems a lot of people take the degrees at kaplan just for the purpose of promotion. Do they offer any relevant knowledge that can be useful at work at all?

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I don't think murdoch will rank higher then ucd for D/L in Singapore.

However, Murdoch has the same cert name & modules for on campus & D/L students.

While on other hand, UCD do not awarded the same cert & modules to D/L students compare to on campus (full time) students because there are no such courses offered to on campus (full time) students.

The UCD courses offered by Kaplan is offered by UCD Uni itself to private schools worldwide for D/L degree programs.

Definitely NOT! IMO, NU Ireland is much better than RMIT, Murdoch or Hertfordshire.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

This is what my friend told me on why he picked kaplan. The most crucial thing is to pick a degree with hons. After that, consider the following;

1) 18mths intensive(do it fast)
2) recognized by gov from the info he gathered in other forums by those finished the degree already.(e.g. spf/some of the stat board) a few guys he asked got hired quickly and are receiving degree holders salaries.
3) no need to go for classes every week. ( The lesson is like 20hrs over 1 week end for a module)
4) top 100 in the world ranking( ranking is very impt)

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

I went to their program preview a few weeks ago for Information Managment, their program executive promoted the school like a car salesman lol. But the schools are really quite reputable anyway so it's quite convincing.

Re: Anyone took courses in Kaplan Singapore?

This is what I got from my cousin who is currently taking up UCD Marketing Management.

So far still alright, lots of self discipline on self studying.

About the 20 contact hours only, don't think it matters when you're applying for a job because the degree that UCD will be issuing is based on 180 ECTS credits which is equivalent to a 3 years degree in European countries (min. 60 ECTS credits per year)

But this number of total hours needed to be spent on the Degree was written on the study guide as " highly recommended" but not compulsory. so there isn't much difference it seems.
