Has anyone used Windows 8 on PC or laptop?

I saw some laptops running on Windows 8 while visiting Sim Lim.

It seems to be some big change to the Operating system. Has anyone used Windows 8 on PC yet? What do you feel about it, as compared to traditional Window system such as Windows 7?

Is it easy to use?

i personally havent extensively start using windows 8 but from what i see the major difference of windows 8 when compared to windows 7 is the "start" button screen

otherwise, the system is generally the same thus one may have difficulty in adapting it due to that start screen

I have played with the Windows 8 on a laptop at one of the electronic store. I don't really like it much because it's different, and I have a hard time operating it. It's probably I haven't gotten used to it yet, however, Windows 8 looks very stunning.

It's rubbish on a desktop with a keyboard and mouse. If you have a laptop or a tablet with a touchscreen, it works alright, although it isn't worth buying one just for that. If you're forced to use Win8 on a desktop no matter what, get something like Start8 and disable the start screen/hot corners.

It makes it WAY more usable, trust me.

I'm using Windows 8 here in my desktop and I don't really hate it... the biggest change is the home screen placement and buttons, among others. It took me some time to adjust to it but I'm used to it now. It's not that bad.

There's a way to make it work like Windows 7.

Install Windows 8.1 update (gives you the start button again albeit slightly different in the way it works because it works together with metro)

Then follow this - It'll allow you to boot straight to your desktop

That being said, Windows is only good for games (not for long with the advent of OpenGL - Companies like Apple, Valve and many others contributing to Khronos and the rise of consoles like PS4 and Steam OS/Machine)

When the rest overtake it, MS Windows will literally be good for nothing.

Wouldn't say it's necessarily the only selling point.

Many production and enterprise software are Windows exclusive, and there are several things I couldn't live without that are not available elsewhere and don't run in Crossover or Wine. For MS and Windows to die, there's a lot more that has to be ported other than games. This is especially an issue in business and corporate environments that depend on custom Windows based software, where there's typically no way to port custom applications over because it would require time and resources they don't have.

I've tried it myself, and I got used to it pretty quickly. Most of the changes are pretty minor, and once you learn how to use it it's exactly like Windows 7. Plus it boots faster and has a ton of other advantages too.
