Re: are you a born Christian?

Well I was born into a Christian home, but circumstances made me hate God for most of my childhood. Pretty much doubted He existed anyway. I only really started believing in sec 3. So I guess can count as born-again Christian?

I think TS trying to say born into a Christian family.

As for myself, nope. I'm a convert, and the only Christian in my family.

Are you sure? FYI, many children are christian simply because their parents decide their religion for them. They are not given any say when it comes to their religion.

Re: are you a born Christian?

B1234tt is making perfect sense: "No one is born a christian!"
Let us start by defining christian. One may claim that he is a christian because he has been through all the "customary rituals" of baptism and confessing that he is thy Lord.

But being a christian should be loving God, how can one love God when he has little knowledge of Him or yet to experience him... Its utterly absurd. Therefore there is absolutely no way for us to be born "strictly" as a christian.

Let us move out from this discussion which seems to be nothing more than superfluous ... I duly respect those who have chose to be a christian at his own accord like Gerlisa

So if one loves God but does not go through the mandatory rituals required of a Christian, is he still a Christian then? If one can be a Christian simply by loving God, what is the need for all these rituals? The rituals are there for the sole purpose of signifying the complete religious conversion of a person to Christianity.

In any case, a Christian is technically "born" if he fulfills two requirements, that's the recognition by the state and the governing religious body. By registering the newborn as a Christian and completing all the necessary rituals, the child is both recognized by the state and the religious body as belonging to the Christian faith, regarding whether he loves God or not. This is all that matters. No one can say that you're not a Christian if you can produce both the certifications of baptism and confirmation (I'm not sure about the confirmation part for other denominations besides Catholicism) and if your IC states that your religion is Christianity, without risking any civil suit.

In any case, I honestly don't think mere mortals like you and I have the authority to decide if one is a Christian or not. Only God gets to decide who is a Christian or not. Those who hate Him maybe considered to be Christian in His view while those who adore and worship him may not be considered Christian. Who knows? Due to this grey area, I've decided that it's best to identify one's religion based on the recognition of both the state and religious body rather than by how much a person loves God.

Please kindly define the term for mortal based on ur own understanding, aside from mortal what other strata are there? (I prefer the term "man" as to mortal)

One should only go through those mandatory rituals when they are aware of what exactly he is doing. Btw, those mandatory rituals are act of commitment for us to show our Love. (Of cos one may argue that there are more reasons to it).

So what if one can produce a certificate of bastism or IC to prove that he is a chirstian but leads a life that is not unjust and unrighteous, this is an act of hypocrisy like the Pharaohs in the past.

I don't think I've to define the meaning of mortal to you. Kindly do your own research and find out the definition yourself.

What if one's not aware of what's he's doing when he's going through those rituals? Many people are baptized at birth when they don't even know what's God. I myself only have a vague memory of my own baptism. I believe it'll be a challenge for many to recall the whole process of their baptism if they were baptized as a newborn. So how does that got to do with "showing our commitment" and "showing our Love for God"?

Everybody have different standards and values upon which they live by. What is "unjust" and "unrighteous" to you may be "just" and "righteous" to others. Let me give you a simple example. The Ten Commandment states that thou shall not kill. I believe you yourself will view killing as "unjust" and "unrighteous". Yet, how many lives had been lost due to ruthless killing made by our Christian faith? We've the Crusades to start with, with the Church supporting and even sanctioning such killings, the Hundred Years' War where a killer is made a saint and to the more recent Lebanon Civil War and the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

In a more local aspect, we don't see major Christian denominations here criticizing National Service, where guys like me have to learn how to kill despite it going against one of the most scared part of my religion. With these, who is to say what's right or wrong? Whether a Christian kills or not, he will always be right in his view. Only God is capable of judging. There is no hypocrisy in religion.

Re: are you a born Christian?

Same as some of the forumers, I was born into a christian family. It was always church every sunday, prayers at night, Bible reading and everything. But it was only recently I accept Him into my life again after this powerful message by a guest speaker. Even though I have sinned continuously, I was alone, I was hanging on to life by a thread, I know He will always love it away.
And I will definitely be sharing a praise report with the service this year.

Re: are you a born Christian?

i guess once again, there is no such thing as born as a Christian, but only born into a Christian family and water baptism and everything else, but who can as a infant think in their mind and say they want to be Christian, infant only want milk and cry only

for the technically part, i agree with all the state procedure

for the spiritually part, firstly being a Christian or Christianity is about a relationship, its faith and not religion. Secondly, depending on your SOT, theology and doctrine, define Christianity will be so different

by Christian or Christianity i meant not include Catholic and other related religious bodies define as cult group by many christian churches and bodies
