I think I am. I stayed in the hostel in Uni and managed to survive with all the household chores and homework, etc. I feel that staying in hostel helps me study better cos there is no distraction (TV, etc). But it also depends on the people around you, if your neighbors are too noisy and those playful ones, then hard to control yourself.

I guess I am.
I did that for 1 1/2 years in Singapore, though I'm singaporean I had never really "stayed in singapore", so I moved here alone. My parents were still in Malaysia.
I stayed in a rented home in an HDB. Had to do cleaning, washing, packing, unpacking, buying of groceries, study, go to doctors, buy other materials. Also I worked part time all at the age of 16 1/2 to 18. Yea the HDB was just me, no one else living in it.
Was renting from a distant aunt. She had a private house so she didn't stay with me. I only saw her 3 times through out. Also I painted majority of the doors, and walls because she was too irresponsible to finish it properly.
So yea...i'm responsible and independent. I prefer it that way. Sadly due to my sisters education my parents moved down to singapore as well...so now I'm staying with them, and depressed about it. I hate them always expecting me to eat their food. It's good food, it's just that I got use to making things on my own, so I don't like taking two steps back.

lol..yea it's rather great being alone rather fun, with all the responsibilities..you realize that you can definitely survive out there. Studying away from family and "home" is actually much more comforting for me I guess. Cus I'm not really one to meet up with my cousins or aunts until recently...Neither did I have any friends prior to my move to singapore.

University has lots of distractions imo. But boarding schools are good at keeping you in check.
I think going overseas brings out the a whole new you, makes you feel you are out to achieve something instead of just stoning your days away.
PS: is this a new section? never noticed it before.

i will discipline myself if I have to..
but i guess i will be homesick for quite a period of time.
when I went for an exchage programme to India for 3 weeks, I was homesick for the first 5 days already.
