Re: BANGKOK HELP !!!

I went there last Dec as a free and easy trip. I stayed at a hotel named Citin Prantunam. It's located right in the middle of a weekend flea market and very near Platinum Fashion Mall (this one is good for wholesale apparels, accessories, etc), relative distance to a nearby LRT or MRT (I forgot how they named it) station. Quite near MBK as well. It's near BK, A&W and a couple of Japanese Restaurant as well.

The room was quite nice with bathtub, free internet access (there are computers beside the reception counter and LAN cable port is also available), TV (there is a lot of channels which has soccer, TW and HK drama as well). It costs about $70+ per night, however it's a double room (2 person), so if you got someone to share with you, it costs about $35 per person. Right opposite it is a convenient shop like 7-eleven so you can get food if you feel hungry in the middle of the night as well.

I really like their service there, they are really very friendly. When I phoned to ask for help as I was lost along one of the small lane while finding the hotel, they offered to send a tutu to locate me and my friend and fetched us up and escort us all the way to our hotel room. And they speak perfect English there, no communication breakdown at all.

Shopping areas:
Bobae Market
MBK Shopping Mall
Platinum Fashion Mall

- I will edit my post when I get home-
Haven't throw my map away from that time, met a really nice shop tender who introduced a lot of shopping venues to me.

My friend stayed at Baiyoke Sky Hotel - it's quite established but I'm not sure how much they paid for it.

Thank you.
With that budget, you can get a 4 star hotel.

You may want to try Ratchada City Hotel located at Huay Kwang. It is 5 mins walk from Huay Kwang station.

For shopping beside those mentioned by Jewraya, you may want to try Patpong's night market and Suhunvit area in the day. These stalls offers alot of varities of goods but do remember to bargain. Lashed at least 23-30% of what they have offerec and if they refused, pretend to walk away. They will likely call you back and agreed to your price.

Whatever price they quote, just reply "Phang Mak Mak!" - Very expensive!

Take cabs and not tuk tuk and make sure that the driver on his faremeter.

If encounter any problem, go to the Thai tourist Police, they can speak English adequately!

If need further assistance, do pm me. I would be in Bangkok around that time too!

You meant Chatuchak market right? I would recommend you take the Skytrain and alight at Mo Chit Station. It cheaper and faster that way.

Re: BANGKOK HELP !!!

u going alone?
i going with my friend in jul staying in baiyoke sky hotel with discount rate about 150++/night
but i think this hotel is beyond your budget but the stay is confirm worth it.

Located in the heart of downtown, surrounded by bustling market and entertainment attractions, within easy walking distance to major shopping centers: Central World Plaza, Gaysorn Plaza, Peninsula Plaza, Amarin Plaza, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Siam Center, Siam Square, MBK Center and many more and for all day long shopping spree, free shuttle van service between Baiyoke Sky Hotel - Siam Discovery -Baiyoke Sky Hotel is hourly available.

Bangkok is all about shopping and eating...
Enjoy!

Yea, I took the skytrain that time, quite exciting. LOL! Even alighted at the wrong stop.

Uncle Peuan, when are you heading there? I also want to go but I'm worried about the politics plus did swine flu hit BKK?

--

Anyway, I realised I can't edit my post anymore, anyway, I can't find the map so I can't tell you the exact station to alight for the locations. This list of places that you might want to consider:

Suan Luam Night Market
Platinium Fashion mall
Bobae Market - try walking at the air con shopping mall instead, it's way cheaper
Jatuchak Weekend Market
MBK Shopping mall - I was addicted to its stationary section in LOFT
Siam Paragon
Siam Square
Chinatown
Khao San

Re: BANGKOK HELP !!!

omg chatuchak, super crowded and warm, lol, but lotsa stuffs there. If you want to look for a place to dine, you can check out the baiyoke hotel's chinese restaurant. It's on the 7x level. Great sky view there, and the price is really cheap for a great buffet (like 20+ sgd?).

No worries about the H1N1 flu. So far there is only 2 confirmed cases. Its not as fatal as SARS.

Im in Bangkok and Phetchaburi most of the time for work.

This map might help

Re: BANGKOK HELP !!!

Polly, remember to grab a map at the airport, it's free and it's quite useful, has a list of their train stations and few recommendation for places of interest.

For Bobae, that time when I went, inside was selling half the price I got from outside. The tees are only 40-60 baht but outside selling 80-100 baht. Try looking for bikini around there too (<$10 per set), it's quite a good deal.

And I forgot to say, Citin Pratunum is just 2 streets away from Baiyoke Sky Hotel. I'm probably heading there end of June if not early July depending on how the situation goes.

Re: BANGKOK HELP !!!

I suggest you staying in Sukhumvit area. Believe me, this area is best and most convenient for tourist with the skytrain.

There is a serviced apartment named "President Park" on Sukhumvit 24. This is a decent one that I usually book for my client. Need further help, just pm me

You should go to Patpong or those road stalls found nightly in Suvhumvit area. Do remember to bargain!
