Beginner Violinists~ Come in!

I just started learning the violin by myself, yes myself haha for around 3 months. So I'm wondering if there are people like me around in SGClub? We could form an interest club to progress and learn from each other! *Regardless of age* I am a student in my early 20s.

Re: Beginner Violinists~ Come in!

Hi! I'm going to learn violin soon!
I'm just wondering how much did you guys buy your violin for. Should I get a $400+ violin from my violin tutor or should I get a cheaper one?

umm.. if u have a keen interest in the violin then get an expensive one like 500 and above? i dont know about the 400+ one that your violin tutor is offering you. if hes reliable and if u can afford it, maybe u might want to consider?

I am selling a violin now for just $100 with bow, bag and violin itself. If u r interested, u can contact me via PM for more details.

Re: Beginner Violinists~ Come in!

Actually, it doesn't matter how young or old to learn violin.

Even myself in 30s is a beginner and I'm into 3rd lesson with music school.

For a beginner, no need to buy expensive. Budget cost S$120 to S$150, depend on which music shop you purchase from.

As you slowly progress .. maybe Grade 3 stage, then upgrade a better violin about S$450 to S$800. Honesty, you need to take care of violin even you don't play for a long time.

*Like Bow's horsetail (white thingy) turns mouldy if you don't apply rosin each time after playing. But also, don't apply it too much! When you drawing on the strings with the bow, the white powder fall on the strings/fingerboard.

Have fun

Re: Beginner Violinists~ Come in!

I bought my violin on a whim, now it's rotting at the corner of my room for the past year.
I've tried and it's not easy. Doesn't help that I cannot read musical sheet notes.

violin
must be harder to play since you use a stick
unlike guiter where you have direct control
using your hands

Re: Beginner Violinists~ Come in!

your idea of an interest group sounds great. people with musical interests and are just starting out could meet out and share experiences. might be able to improve through tips or listening to people learn on other instruments. guitar and uke for me, for example.

I cant read much too! But reading notes for violin is fairly easier than reading for the piano cus for the piano, u have to read for both hands.

Try motivating yourself by watching the awesome violin concertos on youtube I can recommend a few popular ones, Zigeunerweisen by Sarasete, Czardas

Re: Beginner Violinists~ Come in!

Hi Everyone, I'm new here
Just created this account because I saw there's this musical forum here and I'm so excited to make new friends! haha

Anyway, I'm also interested in learning violin but I am thinking of either private or music school. :/

By the way, I have a ABRSM Grade 8 in Piano that's why I'm sort of interested to take up another instrument such as violin.

So people have any recommendations of any good violin teachers?

Thanks!!

Hi, I started from piano before progressing to violin. Your background in Piano will help since you can read notes faster. Violin exam is similar to Piano's. 3 songs - each from cat A, B, C. Scales n Arpeggio. Sightreading, Aural.

I would like to recommend my teacher to you. PM me!

The idea of this interest group is interesting! Let's meetup!!

Hi Candylicious!

I didn't go for any brands. I'm just a beginner and wants to practice as much as I can.

I've got mine (a student beginner) from a nice gentleman from Johann Strings The prices are reasonable and suit to anyone who has budget in the mind. A really nice cosy shop, I must say. You would like it there

His violins are already tuned.

Hope above helps you to make decision in buying violin

Synwin or johann strings beginner violin is good enough if you are in your grade 1-3 and it cost $120-$130 only. If higher grade or if you are determined to learn till grade 8 , it is recommended to get a better violin.
If you want a more affordable music school, you can learn at cristofori music school. their music courses are much cheaper than most music schools in singapore.
