Best foreign language to learn?

Aside from English, what other language would you think is important to learn? I am looking to learn a new language that will be useful throughout my career. I am looking to study international relations or politics.

Re: Best foreign language to learn?

there is no best language to learn. it really depends on what your interests and future aspirations are.

for example if i want to go to france to work in the future, then french would be a good option because the french refuses to speak anything but french.

if you think of going to india to expand your business, then of course indian will be a good one.

if you wish to go to japan to further your studies, then japanese will be a good choice..

ultimately, judging from your question, it is more of a work-related nature rather than interests. so for the first thing you need to ask is, where do i want to go?

If you're good in Mandarin, try Japanese and Korean. If you're good in English, try French.

India got 16 official languages, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi etc.

Anyway there is no best language to learn. Some people like kopi, some like teh, some like both, some both don't like, some anything also can.

I see, so that might convey German isn't an easy language to learn. I am planning to learn some German in the future, so lets see if this is true or not.

Actually I would think life is too short to learn Chinese language

Re: Best foreign language to learn?

Yeah... There are no best language... Depending on your interest, and/or the company you planning to join...

For me, I am English and Chinese base... Learning Jap (for gaming and interest), Tagalog (to converse with client as most are filipinos), Bahasa Indonesia (As my mum from Indonesia)

Re: Best foreign language to learn?

Chinese and Spanish for greater ease of communication, I'd think I'm currently taking Japanese (on top of English and Chinese) for interest; when I master it, maybe Japan's economy would have collapsed (touchwood, this is what my Japanese contacts say) then that'll be the best time for shopping

Re: Best foreign language to learn?

top three most spoken languages are English, Chinese and Spanish.
It would be good to know all those above.
Other than that I think learning French, Japanese and Bahasa might be helpful.

I guess that will depend on how deep into Chinese language you want to learn.
Life is too short I guess that is to learn all of the language but learning Chinese to a functional level won't take very very long.
