Blue screen of death - Reformat?

Currently, my Fujitsu laptop occasionally crashes and gets the blue screen of death. It doesn't always happen, though. At present it's only occasional. But does it mean I need to reformat it?

Also, how much does it cost to have it reformatted at Fujitsu's service centre? It's about a year old I guess, and uses Windows 7. I did get the warranty which should still be on but just in case it doesn't apply, does anyone have a rough estimate as to the cost of a complete reformat?

Thanks in advance!

At times is due to software issue like driver, application etc, if not more likely to be hardware like bad sector on the HDD etc

Reformatting worked for my previous computer though. They had to reformat it several times because it was really badly corrupted, but it was good as new after that.

I can't remember, but it emptied the dump file before the blue screen disappeared and my computer restarted itself.

Why do you need to send to service centre for repair? Your laptop does not come with recovery console that's capable of restoring your laptop to factory default?

Re: Blue screen of death - Reformat?

Just an update... I left mine the way it is, cleared some unused games and programs, got rid of some files, ran some anti-virus scans and so far no more BSOD. So I guess it's fine now.

Nope, my poly laptop died a long time ago. My Fujitsu was bought from Courts.

Re: Blue screen of death - Reformat?

If you have a quick restore disk then use it. Just backup all necessary data first.

If it does not solve the problem, find a friend that knows how to troubleshoot, token payment would be enough. Else can PM me and I will recommend you a friend.

Re: Blue screen of death - Reformat?

You'll have to find out what's the root cause of your bsod first before taking any action.
But first thing's first, backup all your important data!

I would recommend you to do a regular factory reset (or reformat, you guys like to call it) using your computer's backup partition.

If your computer doesn't have a backup partition, then factory reset it using a Windows 7 installation/upgrade disc.

After the reset is done, you'll have a brand new computer! You might need to install/update certain drivers though.

HOWEVER,
After awhile, if your bluescreens are slowly coming back, you'll have to seriously consider the chances of hardware issues. But before replacing any hardware components, I would recommend you to do a full-wipe of your harddisc, using DBAN. Google it.
