The mystery is finally revealed!
When the British were in Malaya , they were being paid weekly and they
argued that locals were actually being cheated into believing that the
13th month pay is a bonus.
Locals were being paid monthly which is equivalent to 4 weeks pay
Because there are 4 weeks in a month. As the British were paid weekly, it
worked out to the same. You see, there are 7 days in a week. 4 weeks in a month.
12 months in a year. Then 12 months should work out to 48 weeks only. But 1 year
worked out to 52 weeks!!! Hence the 13th month is your own pay
(not bonus??!!).
So, the British argued that there is in fact no bonus at all??? It is
A very simple calculation that stunned many!!!!
So, if you got 1 month bonus, that is actually your pay salary.
BONUS???
What bonus???!!! hahaha....
Confused? Think again and get your calculators out... |

hmm I think the 13th month salary is usually called AWS not bonus.. but can consider as bonus also.. but the most important thing it means there is extra money credited in our bank account :love4: | |

well, while one may argue you are entitled to the 13th month or AWS, as you have worked 52 weeks per year, sadly not all companies have such practive of paying out 13th month bonus/AWS | |

» this in my appointment letter "3. ANNUAL WAGE SUPPLEMENT The Council will pay 13th month based on your last drawn salary at every year end. Entitlement is effective only upon completion of full 3 months of service and continue to be an existing employee at the time of consideration." i gave my tender to my boss on 26 November and my last day will be at 25 Jan. Anyone can advice on this? | |

aws is an entitlement... nt compulsory.... some ppl 4go aws to nego for better basic pay...
