Calling astronomy fans/non-fans

Are u interested in astronomy? I am, and I'm sure some of the SGCians are too!

Wad astronomical events have u witnessed? Wad planets have you seen?

For me, I've seen venus, mars, jupiter and saturn. The 4 planets which are clearly visible throughout the yr.

And I'd witnessed one meteor shower too. I think it's Perseids if i'm not wrong. Tat's a few yrs back.

And a partial solar eclipse beginning this yr.

Not forgetting some star consellations

i am one..
joined astronomy club since my JC days..
so in a way, i watched the same constellations too mani times until can get sianz at times le, esp the winter sky constellation..
so now i focus more on deep sky objects (DSO)
& meteor showers is a must-see for me..
will arrange with my frens to die-die at least watch one meteor shower a yr..
right now i love geminids, veri consistent.. if e sky is good, at the peak can easily see more than 50-100++ per night
heard that Perseids is also quite consistent, but haven try watching yet..

mostly ECP, at the old jetty area..
then also got stargaze at NUS, NTU, Sembawang Park..
basically i can stargaze anywhere so long as e sky is good, just stand there n look up at e sky..
but if u like to look at DSO, will need either bino or telescopes la.. then tt will be ECP for me.. got quite bad light pollution but jus make do lor..

also got go overseas to stargaze eg Tioman, Phuket, Bintan etc..

there are 10+ meteor showers a yr.. but whether it is spectacular or not will vary yr by yr..
the ones that i know are visible in Spore are Leonids and Geminids.
Leonids is in Nov but i hav alr given up on this one..
Geminids occurs in Dec and is the one i try to catch every yr since 2001. Until now its consistent and still good.

Aquarids, Perseids and Orionids shd be visible in spore too although i never try to catch them here..

the dates of these meteor showers vary every yr so i usu go to these sites to check the date of the peak..
1. http://www.imo.net/calendar/2009#pau
2. http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors/

but do note that the times stated is UHT. so need to plus 8 hours to get Spore time..

hope this helps
