more questions to make a better choice:

1. By 5 seater, you mean an MPV/van kinda car? because most sedan cars already have 5 'seats' total.

2. Any particular reason for choosing a 5 seater? Is going to be full load most of the time?

3. Is the car going to be used for the whole family? or a second car for yourself?

If you ask mi, please please don't buy a China car. don't support these companies.
a good example of being Penny wise, Pound foolish. a dollar you save today might result in hundreds spent tomorrow.

Just look at the number of china cars for sale nowadays.
Quality aside, haven't touched on the safety aspect of these cars yet.

For a budget of 20+ to 30k, plenty of second hand decent cars to choose from.

Why don't buy china car?

even if you don't care about supporting the already crippling automotive industry.. which doesn't need China to make it worse.

Think about your safety. These cars have 0 EuroNCAP rating or couldn't be bothered to be rated.
If you've seen the video of the Chery QQ in a crash test, notice the car folds like an aluminum can.
The airbag if any is just to bai sui because the head still hits the steering and everything collapses.
At a speed of 80km/h, if you crash *touchwood*, most probably won't survive.

How about the quality? Interior panels don't line up, poor quality cheapskate plastics used..
Engine wise, imagine an automatic car stalling? that says enough.

For the QQ, it's 800cc.. if you carry 3 passengers inside, prepare to ask them to all alight before you go up a multistorey carpark.

tons of negative reviews on China cars out there...
and no, i've not test drove any china cars before, but the reviews are enough to make me want to take public transport instead.

If you really must save $$, get a kimchi Korean instead. Picanto, Rio, Getz, Matrix, etc. At least they bother to put in some effort.
Best if can get from sushi land. A nissan march, or a sunny. lancer even. 2nd hand, 3rd hand or whatever. won't regret it.

Re: What Cars you recommend for a first time buyer?

1st car should be:

- 2nd hand (in case of accidents for a new driver)
- practical and economical (good fuel consumption and has a car boot)
- manual (really trains you to be a good driver)

2nd car onwards:
- 1st hand (if you can afford it)
- fast and cool (speed and looks are the most impt, nothing else!)
- manual (as always)

cars that you buy after you settle down with a family
- same as your 1st car!

Re: What Cars you recommend for a first time buyer?

hi guys, thanks for your comments..

well seems like china cars are a no-no for me..

and yeah i'm about to get my licence soon, so my dad asks me to go find a model that will suit me.

i've looked thru some second hand cars, their prices are around 20K++

but i heard that 2nd hand cars can be dangerous also? like the things all weared out and near spoilt. for example brakes etc.

Yea... china only know how to copy, somemore copy blindly.
Jipun and Korea also started by copying, but they copy smartly and after develop their own things.

maybe tech stuff like computers, handphone and such from China is ok, but definately not something to do with a life like a car. or food. =x

Glad you've ditched the China car plans..
if its a jap, don't have to worry. especially old japs are built to last, lots of before yr 2000 cars still running around strong today.
If you're really worried, try to get cars less than 5 years old. The younger the better, but of course will be more $$.

If you can, get from direct owners, some people keep receipts of services, like when they change oil, brake pads, transmission fluid.. etc.
They can tell you the history of the car and u can see if the car has been taken care of or not.
If can, also get a car with low mileage. roughly about 20,000km per year is considered average n on the high side. lower the better.
Plus its normally cheaper than dealer, but most prob financing would be difficult unless u pay full cash.

cars from dealers tend to be more dodgy. You won't know if there's a problem, and most of the problems are just patched temporarily.
so far i bought once from dealer, and i never did so ever again.

lol, still have lots more things but later ppl read till fall aslp..
