Citizen Journalism Section Launched!

We've decided to give this a shot. We have started a new section under 'Local Affairs' for you to submit YOUR OWN ORIGINAL NEWS!
http://forums.sgclub.com/citizen_journalism/

Do note that every news submitted will be vetted before being allowed to be published.

As a way to encourage everyone to start snapping photos and writing your own news, we will pay S$5 for every published news item that garners at least 30 non-spam replies and S$30 if it hits more than a hundred replies within a week from being published! Offer is valid for a limited period of time.

So open your eyes and be the first to bring an interesting story to SGCLUB!

Limited time only?
Does that mean that this section will be closed down once the offer is up or future interesting articles will not be awarded after the end of the offer?

Re: Citizen Journalism Section Launched!

What about essays and thoughts/analysis of certain major issues such as the BP Oil Spill?

+1 for Lancelot~!

Constructive and critical analysis articles are a lot more interesting and beneficial to the community than just simple STOMP-like articles of people hogging the "Reserved Seat" or eating on board the MRT.

Re: Citizen Journalism Section Launched!

Vetted by who?

And if I put up stories written from various media events, openings, or press conferences I've been to, is that also counted as a news item?

Sure although they don't seem to be really considered citizen journalism unless you are reporting on something new or at least discover a new angle to an existing news.

There has been nothing stopping you from writing such articles and posting them in the proper section of the forums. Also if it is good, we would want to publish such articles in our portal section as well

Yes, i think that we can use media events reports.

Re: Citizen Journalism Section Launched!

1) Its buried inside Local Affairs, in a place where no one will notice.

2) No media coverage. Even Stomp, with its vast coverage, only receive a few new postings every couple of days.

3) Prize money may encourage people to fake a news. Eg. Someone gathered a few of his friends to pose a photo of them sitting and blocking the MRT doors, and call it "Inconsiderate teens blocking MRT doors during peak hours". And it gather 30 posts. Will u pay cash for such news? I can make a living off this loophole lol.
