Perhaps, it may dropped to S$10K. And I believe many would share Mr Lui:

I believe that's unlikely.

It's possible if MAS restricts the vehicle loan regulations further.. Previously you can loan up to 90% of the car price.. Last year they reduced it to 50%.. If they reduce it further, then fewer people can buy a car, so COE will definitely drop.

Imagine.. Buying an $80k car requires you to pay $60k downpayment (75%).. I think only those rich bosses can buy one. As it is now, paying $40k (50%) is already asking for a lot.

Honestly.. I don't think it's much of a difference. Just makes it more "dynamic" as they review every 3 months instead of 6 months. But if you were to total up for the whole year, I think it'll still be roughly the same.

So, who to blame for increasing COE prices?

people who keep complain about COE high yet still buy cars.....

demand and supply looks to me that rich people don't have brains.... or they simply don't care...

Re: Will the COE drop to below S$50K in the next 2 years?

i was hoping it would drop too, was thinking of renewing my car COE if it drops around 2015/2016 to 40-50k. I think it totally be worth it if i renew my car COE than getting a used car. Though there are some down side such as each year road tax will increase 5% till the next 5 years. Probably there be more unexpected maintenance from the normal "wear and tear". As long as the engine doesn't burst into flames i be more then happy. Last year i changed my alternator and air con compressor. Any tips as to what i may expect more to happen after 10 years?

Re: Will the COE drop to below S$50K in the next 2 years?

i said wrongly...road tax increase 10% at 11 years...20%...till 15 years 50%. i have done my calculation for the next 10 years..just my road tax($9580) + coe(if its 50k) + mcp$88($10560) + fuel$300($36000). about $884.5 monthly quite worth it. Well if only pigs can fly and coe be 50k... and of course i never calculate every 10k must change engine oil blah blah maintenance this and that LOL so i guess probably 1.3k monthly? still worth it than getting a new car as long as my engine dont blow up..and yes IF only COE drop to 50k...LOL

my car currently left 31 months...mileage reaching 150k...any tips on whether my should get a used car or renew COE.

IMO it is seldom worth it to just renew the COE. COE would have to drop below 40k to make it worth it to renew 10 year COE
