Come share your job hunting experience

First, welcome me to the workforce

I know nuts about job hunting.
So pls do share your experience here.

What kind of things to we need to prepare?
Resumes, cover letters, CVs, qualifications, ID, anything else? Heard need to bring a pen too?

Question: Is CV same as cover letter?

Where do you start (online, newspaper, others)? How do you fill in the expected salary?
Did you find out about the working environment before applying for it?

Thats about all I can think of now. Hope it will help others coming into the workforce too

Re: Come share your job hunting experience

i've been to various job interviews cuz i'm picky, always make it a point to ask abt the job scope and things u are not sure of. u dun wanna jump at the first offer that comes by and then dislike it after a few weeks

Hi there,

The C.V is not the same as a cover letter. The C.V is a executive summary of your academic and professional experience while the Cover Letter is usually a letter addressed to the employer saying that you are interested in the job.

In Singapore, the C.V Plus Group writes professional C.Vs and Cover Letters for its clients. You may want to check it out at www.cvplus.com.sg

Good Luck!

Re: Come share your job hunting experience

Nowadays i hardly include my cover letter for job applications. I guess resume is still the main thing they're looking for. Btw i'm in the IT line. Different positions differs. It depends alot on your job type, job function.

What kind of things to we need to prepare?
Resumes, cover letters, CVs, qualifications, ID, all certifications that can help the employer better understand if you can fit the job scope. And yes, bring a pen during all interviews. It gives bad impression if you're there for a job and yet do not even have a pen. Not professional leh.

Most importantly, look and speak professionally. First impression really counts! Employers would be worried if the candidate speak like an ah beng or ah seng. Body language tells alot too. Stand and sit properly. Don't shake legs or do any unnecessary tapping on the table.

Question: Is CV same as cover letter?

CV is referring to resume ba. Cover letter is just a brief summary of what you do previously and how you can contribute to the current company. Something for scoring points.

Where do you start (online, newspaper, others)? Depends on job type again. I would guess that most office jobs put up their job advert online, like Jobsdb.com.sg etc.

How do you fill in the expected salary?
Just put Expected Salary: $xxxx Lol.. Straight to the point!

Did you find out about the working environment before applying for it?
Umm.. Not for my first 2 jobs. Location was more of my concern. My first 2 jobs were like 15 minutes away from my home. Hee..
