Therefore, it does not matter what course you are enrolled in polytechnic.
Local university see your GPA, not what course you took.
If you work hard and secure a good result, you are free to apply to almost all course in university.

mind telling me what is your GPA?

Re: Common misconceptions for Diplomas.

I think that paper chase towards a minimum of a degree at a uni is like a vicious cycle and may ultimately uncover even more problems.

in the past, cost of living wasn't really high and was still manageable. A diploma is considered good enough. but now in singapore, high cost of living + expenses + influence of (a little) materialism is causing the newer gen to chase after at least a degree(even those with diploma, n level certs etc), as a degree can somewhat allow people to live a better life. But in my opinion, wouldn't this produce cookie cutters? Almost everyone in Sg would have at least a degree cert, preferring well-paid job positions. Then who will be the ones filling the less-atas job positions? This leads to the issue of foreign workers. They are here because SG locals doesnt want and cannot(due to high living costs) fill up the less-atas jobs.
Yet from what i hear, singaporeans don't really welcome foreign workers, and we have to tolerate them for their behaviour. Would Sg culture be diluted ultimately? A pool of cookie cutters and a land full of unfamiliar faces

Totally agree to what u're saying. It's all depend s on each and every individual one of us. We have to think carefully whether we want to further stud y, do u like studying or do u prefer to go out in the workforce, start from a basic pay (pay not ver y high) but allows u to gain a lot of experience f rom it. It's all about self-satisfaction.Some thinks that diploma is enough and want to see the working world and gain experience, then go for it. Some prefers to study more in uni cause one feel that it's not enough, then go ahead.
Not saying that taking a degree is bad, I am just saying that lets say:
eg: A has a more recognised degree and B has a unknown degree, if B has a better attitude and more experience as well as don't mind having a not so well-paid job, the employer will accept B since this can cut down their cost. Because there are many people out there who are taking degree for granted but I don't mean all of them.

Ultimately if one is going for a uni degree because he/she wants to get a better pay which is technically right (A realistic world where everyone is thinking of having a better paying job) but always be prepare to be humble and be prepare to compete with those who might not have good education qualification but more capable and willing to go for a slightly lower pay.

Re: Common misconceptions for Diplomas.

My plan is...

Diploma > Work(get experience) > Degree > Work.

OR

Diploma > Degree > Work.

either way works... as long as you are comfortable with it.

I took PATH A Diploma > Work (Save up) > PT Degree + Work.

The influx of foreign workers posed a social issue to singapore but pap govt 's objective is economic progress >all. A quote from minister mentor lee kuan yew proves my point :singapore needs foreign workers to stay competitive. So I guess we have to continue to tolerate them?
