Common thing in workplace ?

People must always stay on their desk to do their work instead of venturing to the pantry and enjoy some coffee or tea.

If you do so, it means you have nothing to do. In colleagues/bosses eyes, it means your workload is not enough. In turn, you will be assigned with more workload, with the possibility of no pay increment as well.

Then there are those who pretends to do their work and even pretend to have OT but for who to see except for the short moments when the boss is still in the office ?

Maybe that is why some companies cannot grow at all, remaining stagnant. Unhealthy working culture in my opinion.

Personally for me myself, I don't care so much. I manage my time well and my workload well, I don't think I deserve more workload just because I am more efficient than the others. I rather go home and sleep which is much more productive for my mind.

Re: Common thing in workplace ?

Personally I do take coffee breaks, head down for a fag, etc. or head off early for beers. None of these would cause the type of backlash you would face if you are in the Bosses' good books and/or bringing in the dough, because the Boss wouldn't care what you are doing so long as you are delivering, and your colleagues wouldn't say too much because they are aware of your capabilities to question you.

as long as you do your work properly,i do not see why the boss will want to find you trouble.most important is that you do not bother about what others say.the most important thing is just do your work.life still runs as per normal.

Re: Common thing in workplace ?

But in SG context, you must be at your desk and pretend even if you have nth to do.

Go coffee break = slacking, eat snake, too little workload

Yet those who conveniently uses smoking as an excuse to idle...No one say they eat snake...

Wtf is this type of fked up workplace culture

Re: Common thing in workplace ?

Unfortunately, Singapore office culture is bullshit. You email someone but you don't get response. Suddenly the boss write something, that guy respond within seconds.

Call for a meeting or arrange for some tasks to be done. Everyone is so busy. Organise a seminar with free food, you see them all with extended time.

We are very low in productivity but not what those think tanks talk about. We are just hyprociates and self centred people. We need another generation with correct teaching to be an inclusive, mature people.

I don't think such culture can be eradicated so easily in one generation's time
