Different meals of the day and its importance

Having a good 3 main meals a day is the prerequisite to a happy and healthy living. In this articles, i shall explain briefly the 3 main meals of the day and why is it important for us to eat well.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but often we devote less time to it to any other meal, many times grabbing just a quick coffee or skipping it altogether. This is because we are always very rush in the morning, either to work or to school. Many of us seldom sit down calmly for a nice breakfast.

The overnight fast during sleep leads to a drop in blood sugar that leaves your brain straved of glucose. If you do not eat breakfast you will not replace this glucose, and the deficiency will adversely affect your memory and concentration. People who skip breakfast also tend to gain weight because they have not given their metabolism a kick start and they will probably end up consuming more fat in an attempt to top up their low blood sugar. A recent singapore survey by our health promotion board found that those who avoided eating a proper meal first thing in the morning were much more likely to suffer from colds and flu

Breakfast should supply you with essential nutrients needed during the day. Try to eat a nutritious breakfast that is simple and easy to prepare. Aim to vary what you eat each morning, and value breakfast as a way to rev up your taste buds at the start of the day. Whether hot or cold, eating breakfast well will get your day to a fine start.

Now let me talk a bit about lunch. Even if you have a good breakfast, never be tempted to skip lunch. If you do, your blood sugar levels will plummet in the afternoon, and you will end up with a headache or find yourself reaching for sweet snacks full of empty calories. Most people need to be able to prepare lunch fairly quickly, but this doesnít mean that you have to settle for a sandwich every day. Try to base your lunch around protein, with some added carbohydrates and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable. Eating protein meals at lunch time will keep you alert in the afternoon, whereas if you eat a carbohydrate-based lunch, such as pasta, you will probably feel sleepy.

Let me talk about dinner. For many people dinner is the main meal of the day. But this does not mean that it should be an elaborate banquet of rich, heavy food. In fact, the opposite is true. Think quality, not quanity when planning dinner because ideally it should be the lightest meal of the day. Healthy and nutritious without compromising on taste. Let me share with you the main reason why? First eating a big meal in the evening means we take in a substantial amount of calories at a time when we donít usually need to expend much energy not long before we go to sleep. As a result our body stores any calories that we donít use between dinner and bedtime as fat and we put on weight. Second thing is eating increase our metabolic rate and causes our body temperature to rise. However about an hour before we go to bed, our body temperature needs to drop to help us prepare to sleep. So if we eat a large meal before bed time, the rise in body temperature can seriously affect our ability to sleep.

Breakfast= Break Fast, ie you break the fasting period (aka the previous night while you slept) with a very first meal of the new day. Peace.
