Different nutrients in the body

The nutrients that our body needs come from 6 different classes. They are carbohydrates, fats, proteins,water,vitamins and minerals. All these nutrients are used by the body in different ways. Some nutrients are needed in large amounts, some needed in smaller amounts. Carbohydrates, fats,protein and water are needed in relatively large amount. Vitamins and minerals are normally needed in small amount.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates include things like sugars,starches and fibers. Sugars are the simplest form of carbohydrates. They taste sweet and are found in fruit,milk and other drinks with added sugar. Starch are made of multiple sugar units link together. They do not taste sweet and they are found like potatoes. Starches and sugars are a good source of energy in the diet. However too much of it can cause you to gain weight. Another good source of carbohydrates is fiber. Good sources of fiber include whole grain, fruits and vegetables. Fiber is very important to the proper maintained of our health.

Fats
Fats is a concentrated source of energy. Most of the fat in our diet and in our bodies is either saturated or unsaturated fats. Saturated fats are found mostly in animal products such as meat, milk and butter. Unsaturated fats come from vegetables oils. Unsaturated fat is more healthy one than Saturated fat. Cholesterol is another type of fat found in animal food. Diet that is high in saturated fat and cholesterol may increase the risk of heart diseases.

Protein
Protein is needed for growth,maintenance and repair of body structures and for the synthesis of regulatory molecules. It can also be broken down to produce energy. Protein is made up of amino acids. The right amounts and types of amino acids must be consumed in the diet in order to meet the body's protein needs. Animal foods such as meat, poultry,fish,eggs and other dairy products generally supply a combination of amino acids that meets human needs better that plant protein do. However a vegetarian diet contain only plant foods, such as grains,nuts,seeds,vegetables can also meet protein needs.

Water
Water is an essentials nutrients that makes up about 60% of the adult human body. It provides no energy but is needed in the body to transport nutrients,oxygen,waste products and other important substances. It is needed also to regulate body temperature.

Vitamins
Vitamins are small organic molecules needed to regulate metabolic processes. They are found in almost all food we eat, but no one food will contain all the vitamins. Vitamins do not provide energy but are needed to regulate the chemicals reactions that produce usable energy in the body. Some vitamins are antioxidants which protect the body from free radicals. Vitamins also help in tissues growth and development.

Minerals
Minerals are single elements. Some are needed in the diet in large amounts, whereas some are needed in small amounts. Like vitamins, minerals provide no energy, but are needed to regulate chemicals reactions,oxygen transports and other functions.
