HONG KONG: Hong Kong singer-actor Edison Chen revealed during a publicity event on Wednesday, the true reason behind his decision to swap tags with another runner at a recent charity marathon, reported Hong Kong media.
It was the number seven.
Chen, who recently had his marathon results voided by the event's organising committee because of this tag swapping incident, explained that he switched his tag with his friend because his own tag had the number 5716.
The star believed that seven was his unlucky number and exchanged his tag for his friend's, which had the number 5654, but maintained he did not swap out his own electronic chip – which records the time taken for the wearer to complete the marathon.
This isn't the first time Chen had tried to avoid the number seven.
"My phone number and my Los Angeles home address had a seven, so I changed my phone number and moved to a new address," said Chen, before going on to admit that he was rather superstitious.
"I find that my luck has become quite good after avoiding the number seven."
Ironically, this time around, it was his decision to avoid the number seven that got Chen into trouble and attracted a lot of negative publicity, which indirectly resulted in the voiding of his results.
However, Chen said he is no stranger to controversy and remains unperturbed by the incident.
"If this happened five or six years ago, I would have been very angry but now, I have my supporters … I know what I am doing," said Chen.
