Large crowds and heavy traffic are expected around the Marina Bay area on Monday evening for the countdown to the New Year.
To ensure the mega event goes off smoothly and remains incident-free, the police and the organisers will deploy nearly 750 personnel to beef up security.
The police advise the public to take care of their belongings in crowded places. Bags may be subjected to checks for security reasons.
To ensure public safety, the footway along the Benjamin Sheares Bridge will be closed to the public from 6pm on December 31 till 1am on January 1.
The public will also be directed to other areas to watch the fireworks once the area around the Esplanade is full.
Raffles Avenue, Esplanade Drive and Temasek Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during different stages on New Year's Eve.
The police also urge the public to be vigilant against crime.
Central police division's commander, Assistant Commissioner Raymond Khoo, said that people should be "looking after themselves so that they don't become victims of outraging of modesty; ... generally not to get involved in scuffles and irritate each other."
