And that's what makes Singapore Education being tip top in the world - Bilingual.
There are still alot of things and big market in the western and central of China, and the whole of India is sparkling with lots of biz opportunities, so i don't see why we should abandone our bilingual system, and if you are a chinese, i think you have the duty of preserving your heritage.
I haven seen an ang moh who doesn't know how to speak english (or his native language), but i have seen chinese who don't even know how to write his chinese name....
For a race that has a rich history of 7000 yrs, I don't see in anyways, we are lousier than english, a system that most probably that can trace back...700 yrs ago? 知者无惑,仁者无忧,勇者无惧。

currently singapore's bilingual system and choice of bilingual language is very good too
the world will not mind having singaporeans since they can both handle (even if at worst, a singaporean bad in chinese is still relatively proficient in it de)
for example, if u learn japanese and add it to ur chinese and english, japan will definitely wan u because u can be very useful to them especially wif their dealings in china
probably the reason why singapore has so many MNCs investing in it when they should have all fled to china by now

It's a disgrace if someone can't speak his/her mother tongue.
English is important but I think it's quite shameful for a chinese who can't understand chinese at all.

but when i say picking it up. i really mean being able to converse with another malay, using malay.
Like i said previously, picking up another language is really an asset. bound to be useful.

Both are equally important to a Singaporean. MOE made English the first language is because it's an international language. Mother Tongue is also important for each race. But I've read the news quite some time ago, MOE will be making our MT languages as important as English too. |
