You can't go to USA , Europe and speak Malay nor Tamil. Chinese maybe. But Malay and Tamil I highly doubt it. And I stated that English is more USEFUL than Chinese.
And if you look at Singapore's education system when it comes to English. You know why it's more useful. And I'm not saying to throw away Chinese totally of course. You can never stop learning. And that's how I'm slowly picking up new Chinese words from classmates and in turn , I correct and help them improve their English. But let's just face it , English is currently more useful than Chinese until China becomes the next big thing.

Let me give you guys a simple analogy. The English Language is like a grand piano, it has a full range of octaves where you can play all sorts of melodies, it is used in Science, Arts and almost everything else in our modern life. The Chinese Language is like a toy piano, its musical range is limited to 2 octaves, it is not used in Science, Arts and any of the major social sciences, unless it is related to China and is very limited in its vocabulary and severely hampered by its cumbersome writing system and tonal pronunciation system. Both are bad enough for people who are dyslexic or tone-deaf.

english is the common language in sg so bo bian... but for chinese still impt somehow...
i did came across those chinese english educated pple dunno how to speak proper chinese went to hawker centre to order food...
uncle !! fishball noodle take awae but the noodle wan thin thin type...
The stall uncle was like laughing like no tml lo LOL

All language is important. Different countries uses different language. It is just how to matter you find it useful to yourself.

In my opinion, I think both also important, it is easier to speak both language as to communicate with people better
