Nice places..

Personally prefer Osaka and Kyoto than Tokyo.

Been F&E to Japan in 2005 and 2007. Went Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Ise, Hakone, Tokyo in 2005... Personally, sunrise @ Ise is nice. There is a pair of rocks, known as the wedded rocks @ Ise. sunrise is spectacular.. .If u have time to go Nara, there is a Nara deer park, where the deers roam freely.. Heee... Kyoto is full of temples, if u like those kind of things. Should visit Kiyomizu temple at least. For Osaka, I like the Umeda Sky building.. Nice view from the top...

Went Tokyo, Nikko, Fuji 5 lakes, Yokohama in 2007... Haha. nothing much I can say abt Tokyo and Yokohama.. It's like most cities... Nikko, I only had time to go Toshogu temple(I thk that's how it's spelt). Wanted to visit Chuzenji lake.. But din have enuff time...As for Fuji 5 lakes, I only managed to get there to see Mt fuji, but not to the Lakes themselves... Ha..

Do u know Japanese? It'd be better to know some basics kanji, hiragana and katakana... But if u do ur homework well before going, u probably wun need to speak much Japanese :biggrin4:

Have been doing F&E Japan many times - lots of interesting places to visit.

Important tip:
Look out for i = Information Counters at all Main JR station.
Get all the Train maps and places to visit (in English) and just enquire if you want to go some way- the friendly staff will show you the way, in English.

In Tokyo the Yamanote line is a wonderful loop line and you can use it to a number of interesting places !
Shinjuku (Shopping)
Yoyogi (Meiji Shrine)
Harajuku (Young people shopping heaven-must go)
Shibuya (Shopping)
Ebisu (Yebisu Garden Place)
Shinagawa (Sengakuji Temple)
Hamamatsucho (Tokyo Tower, Zojoii Temple)
Shimbashi ( Fish Market,shopping)
Yurakucho (Imperial Place,Ginza)
Akihabara (Electric Town - Best place to get laptops/hp etc etc)
Okachimachi (Ameyoko shopping Street)
Ueno (Ueno Park, shopping and skinkansen -bullet train)

If you get lost and couldn't find and information counter, look for young Japanese and they could help you.(as older Jap can't speak English)or go to any hotels around.

Remember to follow the train time-table strictly esp bullet train as 1 train track can serve a number of different train journey.

If you are travelling a lot on trains (which I think you will) it better to purchase the JR train pass in S'pore before you go - its cheaper that way. This special tourist JR train pass have to be purchase in S'pore before you leave for JP.

Have a nice trip , I will be there this Dec too for a 1 month holiday :biggrin4:
