Total SGC$: 3,398.10 | FIFA denies FAS appeal for Brunei DPMM FC to finish 2009 S.League season FIFA denies FAS appeal for Brunei DPMM FC to finish 2009 S.League season
FIFA has confirmed that Brunei DPMM FC will be unable to continue playing in the 2009 S.League season while the suspension on the Brunei Football Association (BAFA) still stands. This is after the final appeal from the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) in Zurich today.
The FAS is disappointed with the outcome especially since we have the understanding from FIFA that DPMM would be able to play in the 2009 season when they gave the approval in writing at the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Brunei DPMM FC has requested for FAS to extend the deadline to Monday. In the event that DPMM is unable to resolve the issue by Monday, FAS will have no choice but continue the 2009 S.League season without them. In accordance to S.League rules, all DPMM’s results in the S.League will also be expunged. |

I think Singapore league is very poorly managed, with the salary cap being the main reason for its downfall. I am no expert in local soccer or any soccer, but any sports league with an outdated salary cap is not going to last long. Our local boy Alam Shah said that the foreigners the league bring in are poor quality. Of course! At that type of salary, do they think they can bring in Cristiano Ronaldo? |

Total SGC$: 4,998.95 | Re: FIFA denies FAS appeal for Brunei DPMM FC to finish 2009 S.League season Indo league is plague with fan violence, and everyone knows Indo isn't really a safe place to be. That's the main reason why many of our local players hold back on joining the indo soccer league. One of our local player named Baihakki bin Kaizan asked for a condo and a chauffered car when he joined one of the teams, I think its Persija Jakarta. He will also be escorted out of the stadium in an armored car
Alex Duric asked for a condo too when he was discussing terms with the Sriwijaya soccer club, but they offered him a bungalow instead. Duric was fuming and turned down the contract. Would u prefer to stay in a condo or bungalow? Under normal circumstances in Singapore, its goes without saying that the bungalow is a logical choice. But bungalow no 24 hr security lol. Thats why in indo, Duric wants a condo for his family.
Singapore players will not be playing in Thailand because Thai soccer clubs pay very little. They couldn't even afford Lionel Lewis. They're worse than our local SLeague financially. If we want to bring in the fans, its not via means of bringing in foreign clubs. Fans will only come in when there are big stars. I am sure if they drop the salary cap, Sleague will become strong again. |

it happens everywhere, be it in Asia or Europe.
after all, football is a passionate game.
I want to see the Malaysian Cup back again, those good old days. ( where 55,000 singaporeans cheer/shouted for the national team ).
we need something to light the fire in us again.
this saturday will be Asian qualifiers against Thailand, come down to support our lions. =)

Total SGC$: 4,998.95 | Re: FIFA denies FAS appeal for Brunei DPMM FC to finish 2009 S.League season Malaysian soccer do not always attract so many fans. Only certain teams do. Sometimes the attendance in Malaysian soccer matches is NIL. They're actually in a worse shape than the Sleague.
The newspapers in Singapore must really hate Singapore soccer. A top level game between SAF and Home only warrants a small tiny section at the corner, with the majority of the page reporting on English soccer. The whole report is something like this.
"Yesterday, SAF beat Home 3-2, with Alex Duric scoring the winner in the 89th minute". Its all about the money. EPL generates more profits and higher readership than Sleague. But the Sleague dug their own graves. Its not the papers fault. They're reporting what majority of Singaporeans are interested in, and its not the Sleague.
Its the salary cap. Get rid of it before the whole league collapses. |

the prize money for both the S-league & RHB Singapore cup is pathetic.
I've been to those hot matches like SAFFC vs Home or Home vs Geylang.... honestly, sometimes I feel like leaving. boring to watch.LOL -.-
& even though they broadcast it live every friday on channel 5, sometimes the cameraman is ****ed-up. how to enjoy the game on tv too. GEEZ =.=
sidetrack abit. come on Singapore, let's roar against the Thai's this saturday. * kallang waves *

Total SGC$: 4,998.95 | Re: FIFA denies FAS appeal for Brunei DPMM FC to finish 2009 S.League season A slight glimmer of hope for our local soccer league here. New Zealand international Jeremy Christie is in town this week for trials with our local clubs. He wants to play in the SLeague O_O I am not surprised if lots of foreigners desires to play here, because Singapore is one of the top destinations for foreigners, as discussed in many other different topics
Foreigners come here because they love this place, not because teams like SAF have a great history or whatsoever. The main factor preventing these foreigners from coming here is the money. If the salary cap is lifted, more quality foreigners will come here. If the stadiums are upgraded so that we don't have to sit on hard cold concrete, and if the media will do its part in promoting local soccer, then the league will thrive.
The league should sign quality players who is or used to be international players, and not unknown players off the streets like that Chilean guy in Woodlands. His name escapes me. Luis something Hicks. When the Jleague in Japan started, they signed Gary Lineker and Dunga, and give them lots of money.
Its always about the money. |

VJERAN SIMUNIC had not planned to leave DPMM FC under such circumstances but following the continued ban on BAFA (Brunei Amateur Football Association) by FIFA, choice was not something he has in abundance.
With DPMM FC now out of the Singapore League (S-League) and all their points expunged, the Croatian coach left Brunei recently was a shell of the man who had landed in Bandar Seri Begawan not too long ago.
A coach for more than 20 years, the 53-year-old Simunic was hoping to celebrate his 500th appearance as a coach in Brunei.
He currently is on 496 games.
"I feel very, very empty. The players and myself, we are all still in shock," said Simunic, who returned to Croatia after an absence of 17 months.
"I feel empty because I always fight and now I feel sorry about leaving this job.
"I want to come back if they solve this (BAFA’s problem with FIFA). I have unfinished business here.”
As a last resort DPMM had attempted to have a last lifeline by making an appeal through the FA of Singapore.
But the FAS had failed to persuade FIFA to allow DPMM FC to complete the rest of their 2009 campaign because of the suspension on BAFA.
DPMM FC have played a total of 28 matches in the S-League and where they need only to play five further games to complete the season.
Their last game in the S-League was against Tampines Rovers FC on 29 Sept, a frustrating 2-2 draw at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas which saw the Bruneians remain fourth in the 12-team table.
Praising the club's chairman for his dedication to the club, Simunic also said that he would like to thank all the members of his coaching staff especially assistant coach Norilham Hj Jais and goalkeeper coach Hj Zainol Ariffin Hj Jumat for supporting him.
"We have a very nice collaboration. Without them the club would not be a success," said Simunic, who guided DPMM FC to the Singapore League Cup in June.
"Our contracts are terminated and I think the imports are leaving next month. I am leaving early because my son is getting married.
"But I do not want to leave, I have been working at this job for 17 months and I have really sacrificed a lot for the success of this club.”
The first foreign side to lift the Singapore League Cup trophy - it was also the club's first piece of silverware in international football.
It inspired hopes of a treble in their debut season in the S-League but those ambitions were dashed when their starting three defenders were found guilty of violent charges against a match referee.
And the club was dealt further blow on 29 Sept when FIFA decided to suspend BAFA, effectively banning Brunei and their clubs from competing internationally.
"When this became a problem that had to be handled by FIFA, it was a big shock for us. I know we cannot fight FIFA but I cannot accept this decision.
"I think someone has made a mistake here because this is going against the basic role of FIFA, developing football.
"This will punish the youth, the kids here. Now in Brunei there is not one person who does not feel sorry about this situation. Even the other day a mother with four children stopped me and asked me the same questions: 'Can we play again? Can you work again?'
"I fell in love with Brunei and I never thought I would have to leave like this.” |

the seats are like for some primary school sports day & the lighting is bad, so dim at some stadiums. & at least upgrade the freaking turf of all the fields.
yes, S-league is still a young league that is growing day by day but if they are gonna want to keep it alive. they better do something about it if not we might end up like the Scottish league one day. =x
yeah at the end of the day, its about money money money. its life ~.~

Total SGC$: 4,998.95 | Re: FIFA denies FAS appeal for Brunei DPMM FC to finish 2009 S.League season Scottish league is worse. Rangers/Celtics wins it every year. Sleague at least have Home, Tamp, SAF and sometimes Gombak to spoil the party.
I suggest they cancel the plans for the sports hub and divide the 2 billion amongst the 9 or 10 local clubs, each getting 200 million to sign whoever they like from anyway. At the same time Sleague should kick out the foreign teams.
Having Albirex in the league is a failure. At first they send very good players from their feeder. After which they draw players from universities and even high schools, where standards are much lower. The Jleague teams wants to keep the good players for themselves and leave the terrible ones to learn the ropes in the Sleague. The Sleague is a professional soccer league, there shouldn't be a whole team made of students who has never played Pro.
Even if we wish to include foreign teams, we should look for teams like DPMM, where their first choice squads participate, and not a bunch of students fresh out of schools. It not only lowers the standards of the league, it also throw face. |
