Total SGC$: 1,332.05 | Re: Foreigners versus locals actually, a lot of factors are taken into consideration.. not just nationalities..
for eg. if u need to hire a network engineer.. local
education: bachelor degree
yrs of exp: 3
expected salary: $5000 foreigner (for eg. india..)
education: masters
yrs of exp: 5
expected salary: $3000
who do u pick?
when i was working in a job agency last yr, i even encountered foreigners (india, mostly) who could even accept $1800 or $2000! their qualifications are AT LEAST DEGREE lor.. many are masters or even phd!!
but considering their previous salaries.. which is in rupee.. $1800 - $2000 is quite not bad to them liao! the stds of living in india and sg are different.. so i guess that probably explains why their expected salaries tend to be much lower.
another major factor.. generally, the attitudes are very different.. usually locals are more pampered (me included.. opps!).. they tend to be more demanding from their companies, especially when compared to foreigners. (if i'm working in a foreign land, i also wouldnt dare to be demanding lor!)
but still, locals have an advantage.. they dont have to apply for any EPs.. and they can fit very well into sg culture.. (OF COS.. haha!) so some employers still prefer to hire locals..
of cos, there's also some foreigners whose salaries are way, way higher than locals.. but well, they are bestowed with the brand, 'foreign TALENTS'.. premium staff commands premium salary.. i guess? haiz.

Foreigners are working here for Singapore's Development and helping boost the economy here. I guess everybody here will agree on this ? regarding foreigners working here. Last but not the least at workplace/community TEAMWORK Plays the role which we all shouldn't forget.. |
