French Help!

I want to learn French but I don't know where to learn. I want to take it as a 3rd language in school but my results are not up to standard. Is there anyone who knows where I can learn French? I don't mind learning online, in fact, I prefer learning online, saves money.

Re: French Help!

The most reputable and structured place for learning French here, as far as I know, is that Alliance Française de Singapour (link). But it's definitely not the most affordable -- for that, you need to hunt around in CCs. But the major disadvantages are that there's no QC; the courses are usually very basic; they're not officially recognized; and there's little opportunity for progression.

Re: French Help!

If you really want to take up the language and progress to a native level of proficiency then you definitely have to save up or try get $$ to attend recognized courses. They aren't cheap but they will allow you to learn a language deep enough.

Re: French Help!

Hi, I am taking lessons at Alliance Française. It's a good place to learn French and is one of the most established French learning institutions in Singapore and around the world. If you would like a strong foundation in French and have lots of time to spare, I suggest you register for their beginner courses. If I'm not wrong, the next term starts in Mid May. You can visit their website to find out.

If you are looking to learn French fast, you should get a native teacher to coach you as you need to speak and get direct feedback and corrections. Alternatively, you can try registering for online language exchanges through Skype, etc, but I'm not sure of any good ones now.

Here are some good websites to learn French. (Most would require you to pay)

www.busuu.com (One week free trial)
www.livemocha.com (Free)
www.babbel.com (A few free trials)

I have finished the entire Livemocha and busuu French course. I intend to use babbel to learn other languages when I have the time.
