Get drunk without going broke: Singapore's cheapest happy hours

Get drunk without going broke: Singapore's cheapest happy hours

No.5 Emerald Hill

Living in the worldís most expensive city doesn't mean you have to take out a loan every time you drink. Play it smart with our guide to Singapore's best (and arguably cheapest) happy hours.

By Letitia Tandean | Mar 12, 2014

No. 5 Emerald Hill

When your depleting wallet cries out for mercy, drown your sorrows and drink. Our guide has made it possible to indulge without feeling the pinch, just the booze.

This Orchard Road staple is one of the best, because happy hour is all-day, every day with $7 housepours (mind you, itís a gentlemanís pour, which is 45ml instead of the standard 30ml) and $9 house wines until 9pm daily. The fun doesnít stop there; from 9pm-1am daily, continue imbibing 1-for-1 martinis. If that isnít enough, they just rolled out a new premium martini menu using spirits like Roberto Cavalli vodka for a mere 2 for $22. Did we mention they have great sambal belacan chicken wings, too?

Loof

What's better than leaving the office early? Drinking on the cheap while the sun is still up, that's what. Loof's "beat the clock" concept is simple: housepours, wines and beer are $5 a pop from 5-6pm, $6 from 6-7pm and $7 from 7-8pm. Skiving off doesn't get more rewarding than this.

House of Dandy

Itís rare to find a proper cocktail bar with happy hours, but this swank Tras Street establishment introduced a happy hour in January. From 5-8pm on weekdays, beers (including our favorite Magic Hat No.9) start at $8, housepours at $8, and cocktails go for just $10. You know youíre not going to get a shoddy drink in the hands of these bartenders.

Tanuki Raw

Happening from 5-8pm daily, this popular happy hour offers $10 martinis and pints. Need we say more? Yes we do: Freshly-shucked oysters go for $2 each. But even when happy hour ends, the happiness doesn't stop. From 8pm-9.45pm daily, their martini and sashimi special kicks in: 50% off their martini of the day, and 5 pieces of sashimi for $5.

The Vault

The revamped Circular Road staple is back in full force with their great happy hour deal: from 3-9pm, selected beers and spirits are only $5. Have a leisurely afternoon stroll and welcome the night with great beers, like Kronenbourg, on tap. They have great bar bites too, for those who like to munch while as they sip.

Sauce

An economical way to get smashed here: $60 gets you unlimited access to their four-hour long daily cocktail buffet. Pick from Hendrickís gin, Reyka vodka, or Sailor Jerry rum to concoct with your own fresh cocktail mixers, and drink to your heart's content. This "cocktail soiree" happens 5-9pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 6pm-10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Exchange

Okay, this one is just for the ladies, but it's still worth a mention. Every Wednesday, they give away free flow martinis from 6-9pm. There arenít even any obligations to buy anything! So just pop down to load up on cosmopolitans, apple, lychee, or orange martinis.

Outpost

For those working near Harbourfront, fret not, because we haven't forgotten about you. This new gastrobar offers $5 loose drinks and half-pints of six different beers. Even crazier is their $99 per bottle of premium spirits all happening between 6-9pm daily. There's good food and live music to be enjoyed too.

Cuscaden Patio & Chips Pub

Beer deals don't get better than this. $18 gets you a 1.5-liter jug of beer on most days, except Tuesday when it is only $12. This no-frills bar in Ming Arcade is a popular hangout as they screen live football matches and serve simple bites like chicken wings and potato wedges.

Yes, price may went up but that did not deter drinkers.
