Going to Zhuhai

My family and I will be crossing over to Zhuhai from Macau in early January.

Anyone knows good hotels in Zhuhai that are reasonably priced and around the Gongbei area?

You can check on this website: http://www.asiarooms.com/china/zhuhai.html. They have the cheapest to the most expensive hotel. You can read the rate and comment from the guest.

Jumbo Hotel seems to be a popular hotel with good review.

An acquaintance of mine stayed in Jumbo and found it nice. However it is a little off the Gongbei area where the commercial activities are centred.

I did quite a bit of research and booked HongDu hotel, 5 minutes walk from the customs border. Booked through AsiaTravel and found it okay. Sigh .. will only know how good the hotel really is when I get there. Will be walking across from Macau.

My family and I went to Zhuhai entirely on our own and enjoyed it tremendously. We spent two days shopping at the Gongbei customs complex and along the Yingbin Road where many interesting shops are lined up from day to night.

We walked across to Zhuhai from Macau on a Friday around 12 noon and it took us less than half a hour! The crossing itself is quite interesting and pleasant. We crossed back on Sunday afternoon and it took us around the same time. However, I read that if you cross over on Friday evening or Saturday, it is very crowded and can up to one hour!

I recommend going to Macau/Zhuhai between December to February when the temperature is between 10 to 20 degrees - simply lovely!

When you come out of the last customs checkpoint, you will definitely notice stairs/escalator going down to a basement. Look down and you will see colouful and bright stalls and shops. It will take you a whole day to go through all the stalls/shops on the two underground levels.

If you by-pass the underground shopping and walk straight ahead, the road in front is Yingbin road - it is almost impossible to miss - cannot get lost one!
