A guide to "Platinum mall"

If shopping were a sport,
Then conquering Platinum would be an achievement
7 floors of wholesale shopping, ranging from clothes to little accessories
It is a test of one's endurance (to walk through all 7 floors), discipline (not to overspend), judgment (of the worth of the item), awareness (of pickpockets, though I didn't encounter any), strength (to carry one's shopping) and charm (to try to get better prices)

Dressed in my marathon finisher tee, I ventured to conquer Platinum... Starting strong I was clearing floors systematically and was unfazed in the midst of lots of nice stuff (mainly cos while really nice, I had no use for female stuff).. Then fatigue started to grip me... My legs heavy and my back, aching... I slowed my pace but I never stopped... Even with all the coffee and dessert joints scattered throughout the complex... Benches saw tired women and bored men occupying them, but I was determined to go on... After two and a half hours, I had fully covered the entire complex and walked out 450 Baht poorer, yet 3 T-shirts richer.. To many guys, this would be considered slow since they would not even bother to look at anything, or for the matter even want to walk through the entire complex... For women, this would be considered too fast since they would probably spend a couple of minutes at each shop before moving on... This is just my personal experience...

Here's some tips for those who seek to venture the mall...
Guys: Stuff for you are limited to shirts (party and work), printed tees, and plain tees... Designs and quality are the same with every shop that sells guys' stuff, so if you have seen it once, you have seen it all... Not so easy to find bottoms except for jeans which can be found at the basement...

Girls: Bags and shoes best found on 4th and 5th floor... Shoes are mainly roman sandals design, or pumps... Available flat, heeled and wedge... Clothes are mainly on levels 1-3.. Trends include short dresses, high waist skirts and tops that match the look, man shirts, long tops.. Accessories are found mainly at level 1... Jeans also found at basement...

General pointers:
1. Go with a friend with similar taste, so that you can buy more pieces to enjoy a better price
2. If you are worried about overspending, get a guy who has no comment about fashion to carry your wallet... His bored look will make you think twice about getting that beautiful top which you think is the item missing to complete your wardrobe, which happens to be what you said about the other 5 tops you saw earlier...
3. Now sellers are very clear about their prices ie the price per piece given a certain quantity... So its kinda hard to bargain further...
4. Set a meeting point and time, this is the event that people get separated during the arduous journey.. Do note there are 2 escalators so be clear which one, should you choose the escalator to be the meeting point... Do be understanding if one or more of your friends are late to gather at the appointed time and place... They have lost track of time and lost in the world of affordable fashion or they could just still be squeezing through the crowd...
5. Wear snug fitting clothing and shoes that are comfortable for walking... There are no fitting rooms so slipping the top over would be the next best option... Given the circumstances, snug fitting clothing would thus give the best gauge for size and fit of the top you are about to purchase... Proper footwear is an order.. By proper I mean not flip flops, as convenient as they may be for trying on shoes... This is due to extensive walking required and the possibility of toes being stepped or rolled over given the crowd as well as the presence of trolleys people use to carry their bulk purchases...
6. Pack light or carry an extra bag... This is not just for your trip to Platinum but your trip in general rather... If you intend to come home with several pair of shoes and half a new wardrobe, the last thing you want to do is go to BKK with a full 20 kg load luggage and pay to increase the load for the return... We are not trying to build muscles here... Come with only a hand carry luggage, go back with a check-in (that's what the extra bag is for, you don't wanna be spending money to buy luggage when you could get a few more tops or pairs of shoes)

For those concerned about safety, BKK is safe now... No guns or tanks in the streets, no protests and barricades... What you can find around is debris of burnt buildings, a solemn reminder of the recent violence... Yet at the same time there is a call to all Thais, to put aside their "colour" differences and embrace their common identity... So come again my friends, come again to your beloved shopping haven in South East Asia...

Thanks for the tips!

Are Platinum stuff different from chatuchak, and MBK? If same, then where has the best deals?

Whether the deal ja good or not depend in yr bargain power. I saw an item selling 250baht in platinum mall but selling 350 baht in chatucha
