Default Guitar tips?

Does anyone have any tips on learning the guitar? Like methods to remember fingering, strumming, etc. I've been trying to learn by myself but i don't think i'm progressing any further than playing zombie.

The best is to pick an easy song to learn. For me, I prefer to learn strumming first. Practise to remember and change the chords fast enough. After which you can start to learn plucking. This is just my personal advice. You can always develop your own style.:biggrin4:

Been trying to strum but can't seem to get a tempo going on. What are some of the songs that you started off with?

For tempo training, try to strum on your Thigh for practice. (it won't produce much Noise and confusion, and you can feel how the tempo is like).

With distortion MAnnn ZOMBIE is amazing... easy and fun to play.

Simple songs with easy rifts are stuff from Nirvana, Oasis, and Green day, probably
snow patrol's -chasing cars,

else can try
deep purple's - smoke on the water

For finger styling on base strings, you can try Pentera-Cowboys from hell or Metalica- Enter sandman.

for an interesting mix of finger plucking, Metalica - Nothing else matters.
work your way to play Hotel California by the Eagles.....
and for kicks, the starting of GnR - Sweet child of mine (which is actually very EASY)

To Woo ladies, you can always go with Chinese songs -
David Tao's = Pu tong peng you.
Ah niu (Da COW) = dui mian nu hai (for strumming) Or Lang hua yi duo duo.
And the ever favourite Guang huai Fang Shi - Chen Han Wei
which are very standard chord based Songs.

Rythum training: Wu Bai - Tong Ku de Ren

Using an acoustic Takamine D-series EG-561cL. Smoke on the water is a breeze. Didn't know it was that easy to play. :p

Oh yah... a good strumming piece that you can sing and play along is the Song "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Greenday...
very basic plucking intro and the whole song is just strumming...

happy building up your library of songs....

The strumming part looks super easy :p. The plucking part is a bit fast though however will still try my best.

There're loads of free guitar instructions on the net. I haven't been playing for years, but when I was, it was all self-taught. You've gotta practise and practise. And then practise somemore. Just curious what are you doing in terms of learning and practising at the moment? While learning songs are a quick way to start and to keep yourself motivated, I think you shouldn't miss out on the more theoretical and routine stuff like learning more chords etc...
