There's a saying: "You can die in Singapore but you cannot be sick in Singapore".
I believe that saying sums up what a number of the lower-income households and middle-income households think with regards to the Healthcare policies in Singapore. The government claims that healthcare is made affordable for all Singaporeans such that nobody gets left behind. Well, something that goes along that line, I suppose.
If that is the case, why are Singaporeans repeatedly raising 'healthcare' as a key concern after most electoral speeches? Why do Singaporeans plea for cheaper healthcare?
Of course, I'm not a strong advocate of total state-run welfare system where everybody gets free healthcare services. But I feel compelled to create this topic to seed discussions on ways we can improve the healthcare system to benefit the society more, while having the same (or even more) amount of efficiency.
How should Singapore's healthcare policies be like, and why? What are some of the major problems you see? Do you have ways to improve?
