Help me choose a bike please! :)

Hi, i am preparing to get a class 2B bike after crossing out cars from my shopping list...

Which bikes do you recommend i get?

1. Yamaha R15 (New)
2. Gillera Runner ST200 (New)
3. Honda Phantom (Used)
4. Honda NSR SP 150 (Used)
5. Kawasaki KRR/kips (Used)

I am planning to upgrade to class 2 after 2 years then get a hayabusa/R1. So for now, which of the above suits me?

I am a student (20 years old) with average monthly income of $400... I need the bike to be good looking, reliable and fuel efficient... Will be paying for the bike in one full payment. So can anyone enlighten me on the maintainence/insurance of those bikes i listed? Please share whatever info you have with me! Arigato!

Re: Help me choose a bike please! :)

2b bike i suggest in getting 2nd hand.

unless u need a bike for everyday transport, then can invest in a 2b 4 stroke bike.. the fuel consumption is easily 3 or 4 times better than an average car. in that case, i would get a relatively newer bike to last longer.

but yea.. if u r just using the bike for 1 yr, get a 2nd hand one. had a krr before and 1yr passed by quite fast. think it got about 22 or 24km/L. when i bought it was ard 2.3k for COE till 2013. nowadays u can get one for easily 1+k for coe maybe ending 2 or 3 yrs time.

if i remember, my insurance was ard 300+ or 400 for 3rd party.

I need it for everyday transport to sch and work... 2nd hand i am worried of hidden 'lemons'... then need change or overhaul... risky though...

Re: Help me choose a bike please! :)

Yamaha R15 - looks very very good. Abit look like R1 seriously lol. but expensive

4. Honda NSR SP 150 (Used)
5. Kawasaki KRR/kips (Used)
Both are very problematic bike. Sure this spoil, that spoil very exp when go maintainence.
And u will risk letter from NEA for white smoke emission ($70.00 Fine). But cheap and good looking

Phantom is very cheap but personally i don't like the design
2. Gillera Runner ST200 (New) is exp too. But u will love auto transmission.

For ur Avg monthly income 400. For nice bikes i think it's better to get a Spark 135? (Kups)
Not bad looking, fuel efficient

Re: Help me choose a bike please! :)

hi TS so have you gotten your bike already?

Since you're changing your bike after 2 years it would be better to get a used bike instead of paying installment every month.

I've been riding a Phantom for almost 2 years and basically I would say that it's generally a good bike to start for new riders and for those who have tight budget. Fuel efficiency wise I get around 35km/l which I would say best next to Bajaj Pulsar. I'm spending around 40 - 50 dollars per month for petrol, and fyi i'm riding back and forth TPE every weekdays and ride out during weekend too.

Maintenance wise it won't cost much and if major repair is needed Phantom parts can be found almost in any mechanic shops.

Insurance wise, in the list you listed Phantom should be the cheapest. For P-Plates I got AXA for about 600dollars, but NTUC is cheaper by about 10dollars. Honda SP should be about 800 and KRR should be 1000.

Road tax is 64 dollars for 1 year for Phantom.

If you have the money you can zeng the looks of your Phantom into Harley

Re: Help me choose a bike please! :)

i recomen you to get Kawasaki KRR/kips no worry if it is in used, remember one thing the engine should be geniune as it has new no excuse of alteration, then its better then all
