Total SGC$: 97.00 | HELP SERIOUSLY NEED GREATLY APPRECIATED!;D hi all i am currently a secondary 4 student
i am deciding between JC and poly but for my school'd standard(Band 1) i think it only sound right if i choose JC right?
if so any recommendations of which i should choose? i am currently thinking of victoria jc and national jc. if there's better ones other than hwachong and raffles which i obviously can't go please do tell me;D
i am not sure if i should choose vj cause it take me more than an hour to go to school cause i live in the north side and vj is at like...
suggestions needed? pretty please;D
and i've read many web about the subs combination in jc
currently i am taking chemistry biology physics amaths maths higher chinese english and combine humans-lit elect and ss
so it would be good if someone could explain about how to choose and what to choose to me i am extremely confused about those H1 H2 and what contradicting subs etc...
maybe a little suggestion on what are the subs that i should take in jc too.
i think chem is quite manageable
bio is just all stuffs to be memorised
i dun like physics but i managed to get a B4 in my exams without listening to the teacher but revision on my own
i am always failing my emaths and amaths school paper...
and my combine humans is not very good the highest i can get is only a B4D;
i want to make my choice early so that i can set my target and work towards it...
so ur help would be greatky appreciated!THANKS A LOT! cjw added 1 Minutes and 7 Seconds later...
i just realised there's an error in my title.sorry!;D

Total SGC$: 821.51 | Re: HELP SERIOUSLY NEED GREATLY APPRECIATED!;D In JC, u either take:
1) 3 H2s + 1 H1 + H1 MTL (u're exempted cos u took HCL) + H1 PW (examined in J1) + H1 GP
OR
2) 4 H2s + H1 MTL (u're exempted cos u took HCL) + H1 PW (examined in J1) + H1 GP
Excluding H1 MTL, PW & GP, u'll be taking 4 content subjects in total (be it 3 H2s + 1 H1 OR 4 H2s)
Out of the four content subjects, at least one of them needs to be a contrasting subject. Most probably, u'll be in the science stream so there must at least be one Arts subject.
Common subject combi for Sci stream:
1) H2 Maths + Chem + Phy, H1 Arts (e.g. Econs, Lit, Geog, Hist, General Studies in Chinese, etc.)
2) H2 Maths + Chem + Bio, H1 Arts (e.g. Econs, Lit, Geog, Hist, General Studies in Chinese, etc.)
3) H2 Maths + Chem + Econs OR any other Arts subject, H1 Arts OR Sci
4) H2 Maths + Chem + Phy + Econs
Not exactly sure of the subject combi of those top jcs cos I was frm a neighbourhood jc.
Most H2 and H1 will cover almost the same topics (except for Maths, Hist frm what I know), but H1 will cover less details (i.e. difference in depth) of each topic. |

Total SGC$: 103.00 | Re: HELP SERIOUSLY NEED GREATLY APPRECIATED!;D don't assume that you must go to jc just because you're from a band 1 school. i've got friends getting single digit L1R5 scores and going to poly too. unless you're really very sure about what you want to be when you enter the workforce, going to jc would be probably be a better choice though.
anyway most jcs offer similar combis like what AyD has mentioned. i'm not exactly sure of wha RJ and HC offers though. but they do offer the common subject combis like H2 maths chem phy econs and H2 maths chem bio econs.
i recommend you choose a jc more convenient for you. cos i've wasted a lot of time on travelling during my jc days and its very tiring especially when cca and many activities start late and end only at night.
can pm me if you need more advice(: |

on the other hand, if you know how to spend time wisely, and dont need people to tell you what to do during your free time. you might excel in poly, exceling in poly > excel in jc. thats what most people would say.

If you have much discipline, want to dye your hair, want to wear home clothes to sch, want to get into a relationships and did badly for exam..I will suggest Poly
My point here is there is pros and cons in both and it is up to your to decide which life you prefer

Total SGC$: 8,835.98 | Re: HELP SERIOUSLY NEED GREATLY APPRECIATED!;D At the end of the day, it isn't a matter of which JC you go to. Rather, it's how you manage yourself.
First, people say "teachers from better JC-s are better". That's stereotypical. I bet at top JC-s there are sucky teachers too. I won't say mine is top (VJ), but my GP teacher sucks to the core. She teaches for the sake of teaching, comes late leaves early. Her lesson is reading the notes she gave out few weeks ago which I find pointless. That's her lesson - there's no active discussions on current affairs that GP needs!
But of course, there are very fun GP teachers too. All the videos and interesting lesson styles. I'm so jealous of my friends. And yeah - don't fall into the "I'm from a better JC means I have better teacher" pit hole.
What I recommend you to do is, if you aren't scoring top rate grades, aim for a "top, but not top" JC. Doing so will most probably put you in the best class. You get the best teachers and attention, and I dare say it's far better than the teachers from an average class of the top schools.
You have to choose a place that fits you the most. JC life isn't like secondary school life. It's very hectic. In fact, I just got home -.-. If you choose a location far from you, you'll most likely be tired out everyday cos you have to leave home early and you have to reach home late. (Alternatively, if you're considering VJ, you can choose to stay in Victoria School's hostel (nearby) provided that they have space).
Think carefully about what I said. :]

Didnt know any triple science students who go poly so far for my school. Well you take 9 subjects but taking up space for people who wants to go Poly? Seriously you belong in jc. Dont worry about the sub combinations. Dont you have seniors to ask? If your worried, take the typical sub combi which is PCME. But since you hate physics take bio. But i think more difficult. And of coz can manage lar... Someone from triple science not able to cope serious or not? |

poly is more of practical/project-based and a slower route to uni but more similar to uni.
So, both got their pros and cons.
I think since you so confident, you can go to jc if you think you can get into the course you want in uni next time. |

Someone from triple science not able to cope serious or not? | It isn't wrong if TS wanna go poly. Increasingly, there are ppl with single digit L1R4/5 who went to poly. JC life is extremely hectic and stressful, but given that u come frm a 'Band 1' sch, i reckon that u wld be able to handle it. And yes, JC is a more direct route to Uni. But then again, if u were to enter poly, i think u'll also do well enough to proceed on to Uni. Kinda like beating around the bush here, but my point is that given ur academic background, u wld be able to survive in both jc and poly. So if u're still determined, motivated and disciplined enough after 'O' Lvls, JC is a gd choice. Do take the advice of being in a top class vs top jc too. Whatever the case is, work hard and do the best for ur 'O' Lvls! |

if u more interested to skills for the society u can go poly. they are more slanted towards wad the society really nids u to have i can say. like if u decided in e future i wan study engineering. u go poly oso can. it doesnt really differs alot. poly can get exemptions from uni and jc (from wad i noe) has no exemptions.
score well enuff in poly u can oso get a full year exemption (year 1) so its like...
poly 3 yrs uni 2 yrs
jc 2 yrs uni 3 yrs
balanced off in e end :x |
