Yah it's wrong. You're supposed to start with "I agree to a LIMITED extent..."
I can't really remember the reason but I think if you do a large extent, you only can do 1:1 or something like that, however if you write limited extent, you'll be able to write more factors.
Anyway, my point is, don't try that unless your SS/Hist is really strong.
Nothing wrong. However, in order to score full marks. Must give 3 factors and 2views.
2 views means? One in Intro & One in conclusion?

Reason: Post Bumping
If I never remember wrongly, you have to do this...
1) State your stand clearly
2) Factor 1 + Evidence
3) Factor 2 + Evidence
4) However... (Point that you do not agree not necessarily be wrong)
5) Conclusion + Purpose of the source...
You're talking about source based, not essay question...
Essay questions often ask something like this:
The rise of facism is due to <Factor>. Do you agree? EYA. or
The following are factors that led to the rise of facism:
Factor 1
Factor 2
Factor 3
What is the most important factor that contributed to the rise of facism? EYA.

This is wrong. You can start with I agree to a large extent. Then talk about opposite too. Who say that you cannot do the 2nd view if you do large extent
Every inference needs evidence. No evidence not much marks.

I never said that you can't do large extent. Just not advised to do so because it's really hard to make the argument. And if the examiner is strict, gg.
Btw, it's been almost one year since I stopped studying SS/Hist, so everything getter rusty...

Well at least thats what my teacher said. Cause you're not even answering the QN in the first place, only describing factors...
Are you sure no need state stand? I thought that's the most basic thing to do though, in the model writing frame...
When a question ask, How far do you agree that................? Explain your ans.
or, To wad extent do you agree that.......? EYA.
How do we start off this essay?
Heard that by writing ' I agree to a large extent that.....' is wrong?
I'm answering these questions based on my knowledge. Was a full history student last yr...
Never start your essay with "I agree to a certain extent" .
Some teachers might tell u its not recommended to state your stand in the beginning.
Some might say u have to.
I always start without stating my stand, since i'm afraid of contradictions in my essay.
So what i did was state my factors, elaborate, explain. It's best if you give both sides of the story.
eg. First factor Agree
Second factor Agree
Third factor Disagree
It gives a balanced essay.
Only in my conclusion do i state my stand.
Well thats what i always do. My O levels History got an A2 last yr. Humans A1 .
Hope that helped some ppl. If you dont understand anything that i said, just pm me and ask. I'll be happy to answer
EDIT: IF you want to state your stand at the beginning of the essay, you can do so. But be sure not to contradict yourself. Sometimes in your "excitement" to write down your points, you might forget your stand.
I agree to a certain extent because...
I agree to a large extent however.....
That's how I start my essay.

Bascially in SS/Hist essay, there are 2 type of questions.
One is explaining both sides, and the other is the 3 factors.
Usually part 'A' question will require you to explain both side.
Eg. To what extent did the Japanese Army achieve their aims through their foreign policy from 1931 to 1941?
For this type of essay, you have to explain both sides.
1. Achieve their aims
2. Did not achieve their aims.
And do not bring in other factor, focus on just the foreign policy, but whether the foreign policy achieve its aims, or not.
The part 'B' essay is usually a statement.
'The failure of league of nations was the most crucial factor that led to Japan's bold attack on pearl harbour.' How far do you agree?
For this type of essay, you have to explain the given factor and bring in 2 other factors.
1st factor (given) : failure of League of Nation
2nd factor (come up on your own) : USA's Embargo
3rd factor (come up on your own) : Breakdown of US-Japan talk.
Also, the trend of part 'B' essay may also be that all 3 factors are given to you! So that type of essay, just explain on all 3 factors and conclude by saying which one is more important.
