Hockey skates suitable for leisure use?

Hi there,

I'm an amateur in the rollerblading arena. Was wondering, are hockey skates suitable for leisure use? Say on the roads, parks etc? For e.g. will it spoil the skates easily or what?

Would really appreciate it if someone could give a greater insight into the pros and cons etc!

thanks,
Eugene

Re: Hockey skates suitable for leisure use?

of course it can be used for leisure ... if the skates will spoil easily, then its not a good skate, as they are ment to last at least a year under 'normal' use, i.e their intended purpose, but leisure skating is the least damaging to your skates ...

Erm i think most hockey skates come with soft wheels so you might want to change to harder ones tt can last longer on the road.

there is no need to change just yet ... they may last slightly longer, but in the end you will still have to change, better wait till you've used up your current ones 1st ...

Re: Hockey skates suitable for leisure use?

Just went to check out Skateline @ Peninsular Plaza...

I'm not a hardcore skater or anything... was inclined towards getting a pair of Mission cos I really like the looks...

But the salesgirl advised against it cos it's less comfy and wheels are smaller.. hence slower...

Since I'm mostly for leisure... she recommended the regular ones... wider frames... larger wheels.. faster... more support and comfort...

Kinda torn in-between now... What do you guys think? Ai swee mai mia? :p

Another hypothetical question... is it possible to change the short frames on hockey skates to the longer ones and use bigger wheels?

only if its not riveted dead ... otherwise, you shoud be able to change frames, as there is a universal standard for all frames ...

and yes, regular ones will be better ...
