TEMPTED to jump into the share market because of good gains in recent months?
But investing, and profiting from it, needs work, said Singapore Exchange (SGX) chief executive Hsieh Fu Hua.
To be successful in growing their investment portfolio, they must do adequate research and homework before making any financial decision, he added.
Mr Hsieh gave this advice on Saturday in a speech at the third annual ShareInvestor Invest Fair at Suntec Convention Centre.
'Even if you're a speculative investor and liken investment to playing poker, one would be foolish not to study the cards before placing a bet,' he said.
Mr Hsieh, who makes way for Swedish national Magnus Bocker as the bourse's CEO at the end of this year, noted that investors should be fully apprised of risks when undertaking investments and taking responsibilities of outcomes.
But he gave the assurance that the SGX will do its part to prescribe high standards to maintain a 'fair, orderly and transparent marketplace'.
Invest Fair, in its third year, is organised by online trading platform ShareInvestor, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), and in collaboration with The Business Times.
The largest annual investment event here drew crowds of more than 20,000 last year.
On Saturday, thousands turned up at the two-day event to hear speakers, including author Robert Miles, a friend-protege of famed investment guru Warren Buffett, and Mr Andrew Robinson of Saxo Capital Markets on money management and trading techniques.
