An Asian art festival has opened in Vladivostok in the Russian Far East, featuring artwork and traditional stage plays from Japan and other Asian countries.
Painters, photographers, and performance artists from 7 Asian countries, including Japan, China and Vietnam, are taking part in the festival, which is held every 2 years.
At Friday's opening ceremony, a kazachok and other folk dances, as well as traditional stage plays, including Japan's Noh drama, were performed. Displays of artwork opened at 20 sites in the city.
On show at one museum are about 30 pieces of indigo-dyed fabric made by the mentally disabled at a facility in Tokyo. A nearly-2-meter-long tapestry is among the exhibits.
A Russian visitor said she is fascinated by the delicate pieces, saying they were so Japanese.
Japan's traditional flower arrangement and tea ceremony lessons are also to be given during the festival, which runs through Tuesday.
