but a self-defence art doesn't have to be lethal.
instead it shouldn't be.
effectiveness is much more important. |

I teach one of the most lethal martial arts (European Longsword) and I spend more time getting through to students how not to be lethal. You only need to do enough reasonable force to extract yourself (and loved ones) from harm's way. Lethal is never going to be regarded as 'reasonable force' in a court of law.

sorry but to be perfectly honest, for a female (honestly for everyone) the best self defense you can have is a pepper spray plus running like hell.
So don't skip those afternoon jogging sessions, they'll come in handy soon.
Martial arts for me is more of a show or sport depending on the application. Seriously, if I were a crook with a gun the moment you do that peacock stance on me, i'd pull the trigger or my buddy JailBreak will do it.
I'm not a pessemist, I am doing taekwondo for sport and health reasons but definitely not for self defense.

all forms of martial arts provide protection... but lethal wise, you might want to try taekwando. the kicks really hurt.
