MI has got a short history but It is a new school formed by Jurong Institute and Outram Institute which existed in the 1970s till the 2000s. It's a new school with a new building so it offers good facilities and it's as big as most JCs.

By the way, we are going to have our opening ceremony in May 16 this year and hopefully more will know our school better.

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

No doubt MI is there for a good reason.

However, it seems that there are only praises in TS's stance and no sign of negativities behind it. This one sidedness can very well spark lots of doubts.

You need to take a step back out of the box you're standing in and provide us with a more neutral point of view. You cannot be afraid to make known the downsides of MI. If its really too good to be true, we will be able to see and weight it for ourselves. Besides, most people will be hoarding their way to MI if its known to be this prestigeous.

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

I'm trying to promote MI but if you wish to say what kind of negatives it has, it has basically all negatives of JCs. Simple as that and I guess everyone will guess what are they. No guarantee for a good job with A Levels than diploma and etc. I have to promote MI as I feel that it is not a widely known choice for school leavers.

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

Hola.

haha. I just joined the forum to say some stuff about the school.
My L1R4 is 12. (with cca).

Here are some cons that I got from others. I hope you would clarify for me and others.

MI has a very slackish environment. Meaning the lecturers wont care if you skip lectures and what not.

There are many drop outs in MI.

MI doesnt offer H3 subjects.

MI only offer 3 H2 and 1 H1.

MI grads do not produce quality results.

No MI grad has ever scored 4A's.

Thats all for the starter. I know that was quite a boomb. Please do address the above mentioned.

moechehab added 0 Minutes and 50 Seconds later...

sorry for bumming though. didnt realize the thread is quite old.

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

I have heard of people dropping out MI because they didn't do well in school.
My L1 R5 > 20, but L1 R4 < 20
Hence I'm eligible for MI.
But why I didn't go MI?
Because I wasn't confident of doing well for General Paper.
I'm rather sure I will flunk A Levels.
That's why I choose to go Poly and I rather study IT.

What a school can offer is limited by what the guidelines for a particular school has been set.

What students can do is up to their capability. Trying to claim that MI does not produce A students is unfair to the school and giving the student an excuse to avoid self-reflection.

bad points? terrible pass rate. I think you gotta be self motivated. Apparently, last yr's H1 physics class was so screwed that the highest % was 58% in mock exam. And its just H1.

the environment is friendly though, dunno y everyone like tt :x

and ppl who go MI are usually those who cmi to JC

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

Hi, I am a foreign student that just finished O level here.

When does MI start? What time does the school curriculum hours start? How many H1 and H2 subjects do you need to take for A levels? What exactly is General Paper and why is this a nightmare for students? Can I stay join MI or JC without any MT language?

I am so lost. These questions keep wandering inside my head. I am considering to go MI with L1R4 12, L1R5 19 (failed Art). But then again, I live in Lavender. Someone please help me.

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

An update, the 2011 graduating batch top scorer has got 3A for H2s, 3As for H1, B for MT.
Beat that man.

And year 1 promo criteria is Changed to pass 2H2 + H1 contrasting.

MI is a school of opportunity, u want to make use of it or not, it's ur problem.

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

no offense, but I do think you should consider the overall performance of MI students as compare to their top scorer.

I joined just to share my view of opinion about my younger brother that went to MI. I also noticed this is a very old thread.

MI is without a doubt, a good choice for those that couldn't make it to JC.
In MI, I felt that students need to have a higher level of discipline to do well as compare to JC student.

why? Because majority of the students there aren't well motivated to study well, which would affect all others student. You might think that, as long as you are very determined, no matter JC or MI, you will still do well. True, you would still do well, but you would still get affected badly in MI as compare to JC.

Lets put this as the case: Ken is a very motivated student.
Case A : Ken went to JC, all the students there are competitive in their studies, motivated to do well.
Naturally, Ken would drive himself to do better.
Case B : Ken went to MI, most students there are 'slack', noisy, unwilling to study
Ken would STILL do well, but it is highly unlikely that he would make use of the 3years as compared to the 2years. On top of that, Lecturers is more likely to give up on students.

As I have explained, the 3years can be a double-edged sword.

Pros of MI :
A second chance for students that did not cut for JC but still wishes to take A level route.
More time to study for A level.
Cons of MI :
Bad studying environment as compare to JC
Student is likely to be affected by the 'slackish'/playful environment.( this explain the higher failing percentage of students getting in to universities.)
Less competitive (I view this as a cons, competitive is a factor that drive students to work harder.)

Re: Millennia Institute: Consider it as your choice.

If a certain top jc receives an intake of complete slackers will that jc become the next generation MI? Yes no doubt that the environment and teachers and track record helps plenty. But the student himself is always the alpha and omega of his own results.

hey, you seem rather way too defensive about MI from your post and I have a feeling that you view MI route > JC route.

Did you have the permission of the author before posting the blog link?

have you went through both the JC route and MI route before posting such comments?
ask yourself again, will the blogger have a better life if he went for MI instead of JC.
I bet there even way higher % of MI peeps that suffered even worse than this poor JC dude.
