Default MOE to provide more support to Special Education schools & teachers

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...018023/1/.html

SINGAPORE : The Education Ministry is offering more support to Special Education (SPED) schools.

The measures were announced on Friday at an awards ceremony to recognise the contributions of teachers in such schools.

Scholarships for the professional development of staff in SPED will be offered by the Education Ministry yearly.

Up to 10 local scholarships will be provided to educators to attain degree-level training in the field.

This is in addition to two postgraduate scholarships for pursuing Masters degrees in relevant areas of specialisation.

Each SPED school will also have an Administration Manager from next year.

Senior Minister of State for Education Grace Fu said: "The provision of support in the three areas - scholarships for principals and key personnel to pursue degrees, sponsorships for psychologists to go for further post-graduate diploma training and provision of the Administration Manager position - aims to build the capability of SPED schools to enhance the quality of education for their students." - CNA/ms
